1934-36 1935 Diamond Stars # 077 - Charley Gehringer (blue back) - PSA 6

Depicted here as a member of the Detroit Tigers, Gehringer was a quiet, unassuming man who, as Ty Cobb put it, "let his bat and glove do all the talking for him." Not without a sense of humor, when asked about his reputation as a quiet man, he replied, "...if somebody asked me a question, I would answer them. If they said, 'Pass the salt,' I would pass the salt." Gehringer was given the nickname "The Mechanical Man," because of his remarkable consistency as both a second baseman and a hitter. Widely regarded as the best second baseman of all time, he was enshrined into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1949.
