George Magee Jr, was born and raised in the Overbrook section of West Philadelphia, and was a longtime resident of Penn Valley, PA.

Magee graduated from the Haverford School, and from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1934, where he was president of his senior class.  One year after graduating, he opened his own business, this Magee Press.  This was 1935, the same year he printed and published this book.

Later, he worked as a purchasing agent for publishing houses Edward Stern & Co. and Cuneo Press. He also was interested in model railroading, and in 1962 opened a specialty shop for imported HO-gauge  model trains.  He also collected antique coins and was actively involved with the Philadelphia Coin Club.

He was married to Betty Wynne Maggee.

Members of a group called the Quicksilver Association assisted with the publication of this book.  Their names are listed in the book.  They include:  Pamela Burr of Bryn Mawr, Evan Bruce Byall of Penn Valley, Robert Chambers Jr. of Haddonfield, Clara Louise Chapman of Overbrook, Charles Eugene Claghorn of Narberth, Virginia Dorsey of Germantown, Thomas H. Edwards Jr. of Merion, Sylvia Scott Korff of Chestnut Hill, John M. Poole IV of Villa Nova, Helen N. Tuttle of Bryn Mawr, etc.
