Very interesting signed real photo picture postcard of MY STELLA POLARIS in the high Arctic pack ice, franked with Great Britain King George V 1d postage stamp, tied London, 21 Aug 1936. machine cancel, to Boston, Massachusetts, with interesting message, reading, in part, "This marks our farthest north (80°51') [latitude] in the edge of the polar ice pack. And at 11 PM we went on a motor boat ride in among the floating ice cakes. That night was cloudy, but the next night we saw the sun bright at midnight well above the horizon ..." MV STELLA POLARIS (5,020 tons), owned at the time by the Bergen Line of Bergen, Norway, was built in 1925-26, and completed in 1927, as the the world's first custom built cruise ship. In fact, she was dubbed the Royal Yacht of cruising, being constructed on the lines of an elegant yacht, this ship was considered at the time to be one of the most elegant and exclusive vessels devoted to cruising. She sailed to the North Cape and Arctic, Mediterranean, Caribbean and even around the globe. With impeccable service and lavish accomodations, she boasted one crew member for each of her two hundred passengers. Fine condition, corner tips very slightly bent, mentioned only for the record. *** We have been in the postal history business since 1953 and are members of the Maritime Postmark Society, American Stamp Dealers Association, American Philatelic Society, National Stamp Dealers Association, Philatelic Traders Society (Great Britain), Canadian Stamp Dealers Association (Canada), International Federation of Stamp Dealers Associations, Collectors Club of New York and numerous other philatelic organizations.
