1936 Solid Silver Gilt Guilloche Enamel Cigarette Case

This Wonderful Quality Cigarette Case measures approximately 3 3/8 inches or 87 mm across from the hinge to the catch by3 1/4 inches or 85 mm in length and it is 3/8 of an inch or 9 mm deep, it is made from solid silver in a square shape that has been internally gilded or gold plated and the case has a ten section piano hinge along with a spring loaded finger or thumb catch on the front edge. The back of the case has an engine turned decoration and the front of the case has been wonderfully decorated with blue guilloche enamel. The case has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram and it has been impressed on the inside with a full set of English solid silver hallmarks that read as follows,

Mn & Wb - Anchor - Lion Passant - M

Mn & Wb is the famous Birmingham makers mark of Mappin & Webb Ltd, the Anchor is the mark of the Birmingham assay office, the Lion Passant is the mark of English solid sterling silver and the letter M is the date letter for 1936.

The condition is near Mint.

The Enamel is in near MINT condition with No Chips and No Cracks, the case itself has No Dents, No Splits, No Holes and No Repairs that I can find, the case is straight, the hinge and catch are working perfectly, the case opens with ease and clicks tightly shut. The internal gilding is a good colour, the hallmark is still clearly legible although as this case is a used antique there is some very minor surface wear along with the patina of age that are to be expected and as I have left the cigarette case in the totally original condition that it was found a gentle clean would not go amiss. Personally I think that this cigarette case would make a superb addition to any collection and that the overall condition is absolutely amazing considering that it's almost 75 years old.
