1940s SHURE BROTHERS 9858 STRATOLINER ANTIQUE ART DECO MICROPHONE WITH HI-Z CONTROLLED MAGNETIC ELEMENT
This mic is so beautiful, it is hard for me to describe. It had a dead crystal element when it came to me, so I installed a Hi-Z Controlled Magnetic Element and a fresh Harp Mic Gasket. Comes complete with matching S36 Art Deco tear drop desk stand (dig that rare clean logo), and a 7-foot rubber jacketed cable with a 1/4" plug. The cable has a worn spot where it goes into the back of the stand, which is shown in one of the photos. This 9858 looks exactly the same as the 708A to me, and I'm not sure what the difference is. The Stratoliner was introduced in 1942, and is one Buck Rogers-looking cultural artifact.
It may not look like a harp mic at first glance, but is actually smaller in diameter and much lighter than a Green Bullet. It has a superb ballsy CM element, and it is ready to plug and play. Just remove it from the desk stand (one brass mounting lug, included), and you will find it surpisingly comfortable to cup. Please see all photos. The paint on the mic and the stand has a few minor nicks, but it is extraordinarily beautiful (see many photos in listing). It is a deep grey with blue highlights. Can also be mounted on a regular mic stand with standard 5/8"-27 thread, and so is a great choice for someone who wants a mic to sing and play harp through, for those special effect distorted vocals. Can't go wrong with this excellent Stratoliner.
