Here's a midcentury Texas classic: a child in a cowboy costume posing for a portrait on a shetland pony. Literally every family had one of these pictures. Ours shows my husband and his brother on what appears to be an identical pony. ALL the ponies were brown and white pintos. Itinerant photographers traveled through neighborhoods. This little buckaroo was photographed around 1945. The 8'' X 10'' black and white photo was printed on textured stock and then hand-tinted with green grass and pink cheeks. There is a brown spot on the front of the pony, some soil marks in the margins, and some light creases but it still looks cute.
