Are the sides on that piece straight, MissLynette? Yes. It's a trick of camera perspective which makes it appear otherwise.
MLN 1029.17 / Antique Traditional Mahogany Lane Cedar Chest, 1945
ATTRIBUTES: Beautiful traditionally styled Lane cedar chest. This will never go out of style, no matter how many designers try to turn everyone to pale (cold) streamlined furniture. This beauty retains its original finish, with minor wear, as expected with a piece of this age, made of mahogany, the softest of hardwoods. It has a new lock as required by eBay rules and in accordance with Lane's recall of their cedar chest locks many years ago. The interior is fully lined in cedar and it's got all the paperwork still inside. A gorgeous piece of furniture, heirloom quality Lane, the cedar chest masters.
POTENTIAL USES: This piece was made in April 22, 1945. Can you imagine what that must have been like? Nearing the end of WWII, someone bought this piece for the future. In MissLynette's day, cedar chests like this one, purchased by or for young women, were called "Hope Chests." They were filled with beautiful handmade linens and everything one might need to begin keeping house with some dreamboat of a sailor or Army man. Well, that precedes Missy's day by just a hair; more her parents' time. And Missy's own hope chest contained all of her hopes of escaping to the big city to be a free-spirited single girl. Nevertheless, every home has its treasures and even now, men and women want to plan and dream of the future. This old chest brings with it all of the hopes its carried in the past, and it's ready for yours or the dreams of someone you love.
