1947 Kelloggs Pep Cereal 1st Sport Box Basketball Mikan

I have collected Cereal Boxes for over 30 years and this is the very first Sports Box to have a Sports Player on the Front of the Box. Wheaties has had multiple sports figures on their boxes, starting in the 30s, but only on the backs of those early boxes.   This 1947 Kelloggs Pep box has Basketball star of the day George Mikan pictured on the front along with Tennis Champion Mary Hardwick & Popular Bandleader Kay Kyser.

Mikan was known as Mr. Basketball and as well known as "Wilt" Chamberlain and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor, Jr) of his time. Mikan played for the Chicago American Gears of the NBL & the Minneapolis Lakers of the NBL.

This box would attract attention in any museum as a first of its kind.

Box condition, has wear. Front is still pretty clean overall. The back has a good bit of abrasion / wear. Overall grade is a 6.5 out of 10.
