_______________________________________________________
This 1949 calendar was published by the Bärenreiter music publishing
company to advertise their work.
The calendar consists of one wood with text, for each month. The woodcuts
and text are printed lettepress, by hand on a printing press, and not offset
or with a photo-mechanical process, as indicated by the impression on the
reverse side of the pages.
The blackletter fraktur typography is reminiscent of the work of Rudolf Koch,
the German calligraphy and typography expert, although I am not certain of
the identity of this letter font.
Each woodcut is accompanied by a quote from a leading European writer.
These writers are: Goethe, Martin Luther, Leo Tolstoy, Jeremias
Gotthelf: The pen-name of Swiss novelist Albert Bitzuis from Murten, Switzerland;
Wilhelm Raabe from Braunschweig, Deutschland; Lucilio Vanini, Friedrich
Rückert, Leo Tolstoi, H. Oeser, and Peter Rosegger: a poet from Sytria,
Austria.
The reverse side of each page includes information about books (mostly music
books) published by this publisher. Included are references to: Fritz
Dietrich, Dr. Richard Baum, Paul Sinkwitz, Rudolf Mirbt, Karl Thylmann, etc.
Today Bärenreiter is one of the world's largest publishers of classical
music. The company published standard concert repertoire, also educational
music, contemporary music as well as music books.
This publishing company was founded by Karl Vötterle (born 1903 - died
1975.) The company has offices in Kassel, Germany, in Basel, Switzerland,
in London, New York, and Prague.
Condition: Very Nice Condition: No library or
institution markings. No previous owner's markings. The pages are bright
and clean, with no foxing or dampstains. Pages are securely attached with
