Up for bid is my 1949 Farmall H tractor serial number FBH 321113 X1. I have used this tractor to pull hay wagons, bush hog, stretch fence, and most recently, to pull an old disc to renovate our pasture. This is a working tractor that we have taken to local shows.
The tractor starts easily, usually within the first two revolutions. It is running at idle in the pictures. It shows good oil pressure at all times and does not run hot. It does not smoke. There are no welds in the block or castings that I could find and the manifolds are good. The brakes and clutch work good. The transmission shifts into all 5 fwd gears and reverse with no problems. Steering is solid with no appreciable slop. It is a 6 volt electrical system. All the lights work and are "on" in the pictures.
The cosmetics of this tractor were restored in August of 2007 for display at the Indiana State Fair. At that time I repainted it with IH 2150 red, installed vinyl cut decals, new front emblem, new steering wheel, new front tires, and tubes.
I also accomplished the following mechanical work:
I completely rewired the tractor, installed a new 6 volt voltage regulator, and a new 6 volt battery. I installed a new IHC water temp gage, new IHC muffler, rebuilt the carburetor, replaced the plug wires, points, and spark plugs. I also installed a battery "switch" to isolate the battery when parked to prevent inadvertent cranking of the engine or lights being turned/left on by strangers when the tractor was left unattended while on display at the fair.
It is riding on a matched set of rear 12.4 - 38 GoodYear "sure grips". I estimate both at 60-70%, although the rear rubber is NOT in the same condition. The left rear has been split on the side in the past and repaired with a boot and is heavily weather cracked (See pictures), while the right tire is near perfect with light cracking only. I do not believe either tire is fluid filled and both rims have no rust around the valve stems. Both front tires and tubes are new. All hold air with no problems.
P.T.O. and belt pulley drive both work. There is no remote installed, but pulling back on the hydraulic lift handle runs the pump and lugs down the motor as a "closed" system should.
This tractor is not perfect. It does have some flaws:
The rear work light lens is missing. The left front head light does not always work due to an unresolved "ground" issue. There is no battery box lid. It does have a few oil drips. The hood area above the grille screen has a few dings. (See picture) One of the "L"'s in Farmall on the left side of the hood has been scratched and the front right corner of the front wheel bolster where I think part of a cultivator would mount is broken off. It does not effect the operation of the tractor. It is cosmetic only so far as the purposes I've used the tractor for. (See picture)
I will also be including both rear wheel weights, a swinging drawbar that needs minor repair (draw pin hole has broken out), an extra radiator (condition unknown, but it looks good except for some damaged cooling fins), the original paper belt pulley for display purposes only (it is to deteriorated for belt use in my opinion), and a pair of front steering cultivator brackets.
This tractor is being sold as-is due to its age. I have attempted to include everything that I know is wrong with this item. I have included pictures of the oil pressure, the amp meter, and water temp with the tractor running at idle. The last picture shows the tractor at work with my teenage daughter operating it. It runs well and is safe enough that I trust it with her. Please email/ebay mail and ask any questions. I can provide additional pictures on an as needed basis. You are bidding to own this item.
This item is for pick-up only. I could possible deliver the item within 50 miles for a fee. This would have to be negotiated and payment made. I will accept cash at pickup, postal money order, or paypal. Full payment can be made by paypal. I would like to have the item picked up within 15 days, but I will store the item indoors if paid for in full, until such time as pickup can be made.
On May-23-08 at 14:43:37 PDT, seller added the following information:I would like to add a couple of things,
The tractor was once equipped with radiator shutters. The control handle is still installed and turned freely when I removed it (and installed it back) when I painted the tractor in August of 2007. I should also have the rod that goes between the handle and the pivot arm up front. Unfortunately, there were no shutters installed on the tractor.
Tractor is located in Hendricks County, zip code 46122.
