In 1955, a patent was issued to Theodore M. McCarty, assignor to the Gibson Guitar Corporation for his design of the Les Paul Guitar. The Les Paul signature series model represented a design collaboration between Gibson Guitar Corporation and accomplished jazz guitarist Les Paul.
