Absolutely Outstanding VINTAGE Modern Sofa Sleeper, Denmark, c. 1968. If you found this listing, you likely know how difficult it is to find a “cool” mid century modern sofa that can actually sleep TWO people. Further more, it is VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE to find ANY (vintage or modern day) sleeper sofa that truly does not "look" like a sleeper sofa (ie: heavy thick bottom area etc). If you have been searching for something different and unique (and I mean REALLY different and UNIQUE), look no further!
Absolutely NOTHING about this design says “hey, I am also a sleeper sofa”. It actually sits up off the ground on legs with nice and clean open space underneath. There are no visible signs of being a sleeper. Get on your hands and knees and look at the underside...its cannot possibly be a sleeper right....wrong! The design and thinking that went into this are down right genius and the UNBELIEVABLE QUALITY and mechanics MUST be seen in person to be appreciated. The sofa magically transforms into a 2 person sleeping bed in under 20 seconds. Everything involved in making the transformation from sofa to a bed is self-contained (except adding sheets and pillows etc.).
Have a look at the photos below as we put them in order showing the stages of transformation. It takes only one person to turn it into a bed and it could not be easier to do. We will describe the procedure here, but the pictures really show it better then words can.
Okay...here we go. The entire seat back hinges forward and down onto the seat surface. Then the seat surface is pulled up then outward onto the floor. There is an internal glide and roller mechanism to assist this and its smooth as silk. Next the hinged seat-back pulls straight out and folds over also making contact with the floor. While all this is happening the integrated satin (or satin like material) bed liner opens up right along with each stage. Again, you really have to see this is person to appreciate how incredibly cool this is. Lastly, just add sheets and pillows etc. and your done!
In the sofa position, It measures 69” long by 32” deep by 30” high at the back (15.5” high from the floor to the seat and 22" high to the top of the arm). When in the bed position, its 58” wide by 78” long by 11” high from the floor.
As a sofa, the piece sits very comfortably. The seat-back has a little firmer feel then the seat cushion providing for a good upright seating position. As a bed, it sleeps overall towards the firmer side. Depending on your guests some may love this, others may not. A simple solution would be to keep one of those roll up foam "egg crate" pads or another similar type bed topper in a closet. The backside of the sofa has a thin masonite like panel, thus it was designed to be placed along a wall. This is original to the piece and is there due to the internal mechanics of the sleeper. If you want to place the sofa into the middle of a room, we see two options. Either place a sufficient console type table along the backside or simply have an upholster create a fabric panel to affix to the back.
The piece is all-original and was extremely well cared for & likely rarely used. It is stamp dated on the underside Sept. 1968. The dark green upholstery is in amazing condition for its age and super clean with no spots or stains or smells. There is some VERY MINOR darkening at the seat edge and arm rests, simply from age and light use. There are a couple of very minor little visible snags in the fabric, one on the inside of the right arm and another on the front of the seat....both are extremely minor and in no way whatsoever affect the overall appearance. There are also two NON VISIBLE (when in the sofa position) snags, one on each INTERNAL corner of the seat-back. You only see these when the bed is fully open (see pics showing the front corners of the bed) and they too have no affect on the overall appearance. The satin gold toned lining on the bed is stunning for its age and is proof positive that the bed area was likely very rarely ever used.
Unfortunately no pictures or words can really show how cool this piece is. In over a decade of dealing in vintage modern furniture, it is easily one of the all time amazing pieces to have passed through our hands.

Payment from US and Canada bidders may be by Paypal, Check, or Money Order (overseas bidders please see your terms below). Payments are expected to be mailed (“postmarked”) or made via Paypal within THREE (3) days of receiving your Ebay invoice. Items paid for by check will be held for clearance a minimum of 7 business days.
SHIPPING
Buyer pays shipping and insurance or may pick up in the Los Angeles area. We ship exclusively by UPS and Greyhound within the USA. PLEASE ALLOW time for items to packed. Larger items that require special packaging may take a little longer. Unlike many ebay sellers, we do not just loosely toss your items in a used old “soft” box and send it on its way destined to be damaged. We take GREAT CARE and expense in both money and time in packing your piece. We use 99% new materials (all produced from recycled sources) and pack the right way every time (it’s not at all uncommon for a small furniture piece to take us 2+ hours to pack). We try and keep “in stock” a full assortment of shipping supplies, but sometimes certain size boxes etc. need to be ordered. We kindly ask that you please allow us a little time for this. In return, we assure you it will arrive safe and secure ready for your enjoyment.
THE REST
We sell VINTAGE items, thus they are USED and should be expected as such. If you’re seeking zero wear, age or patina, we would suggest you buy “new”. Any great extremes in condition will be noted in the items description. Items are described as accurately as possible. Please ask questions BEFORE you bid. We reserve the right to retract any bids deemed questionable.
Special note on vintage electrical items
ANYTHING that plugs in or runs on batteries are sold as design objects for decorative value only and while the current working condition will be noted in the items description, there is no warranty or guarantee on these items due to the fact that they are just that…vintage. Again, ALL SALES ARE FINAL, so please ask questions BEFORE bidding.
Special note on lamps and lighting
Vintage lamps and light fixtures have old wires and sockets. While more often then not, they are safe to use, it is always recommended that you have them checked by a qualified lighting technician prior to using and then have rewired if deemed necessary. We will not be responsible for any electrical hazards or damage.
