Payments for winning bids must be received within 5 days of the winning bid or I reserve the right to relist the item.

ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This auction is for a gorgeous, coffee table sized hard copy WITH DUST JACKET of Norman Rockwell's THE NORMAN ROCKWELL ALBUM. First Edition, First Printing, this 1961 Doubleday book is written BY Rockwell. In it, he not only presents the auto-bio of his life, but he explains how he created the great and famous works he did, and includes shots of the works as they progressed and as he changed them! This book is truly an education and history of one of America's greatest artists. Most poignant is his, "I Paint The Golden Rule" which became one of his most cherished works. He writes:
Most of the time, I try to entertain with my POST covers. But once in a while I get an uncontrollable urge to say something serious. Like everyone else, I'm concerned with the world situation, and like everyone else, I'd like to contribute something to help. The only way I can contribute is through my pictures. So for a long time I had been trying to think of a subject that might be of some help. Then one day (I don't know why or how) I suddenly got the idea that the Golden Rule - "Do unto Others as You Would Have Them Do unto You" - was the subject I was looking for. Right away I got intensely excited. But how could I picture the Golden Rule? I began to make all sorts of sketches. Then I remembered that down in the cellar of my studio was the ten-foot-long charcoal drawing of my United Nations picture, which I had never finished. I hauled it upstairs. In it I had tried to depict all the peoples of the world gathered together. That was just want I wanted to express about the Golden Rule. I spent almost five months painting the picture. It was an enormous amount of work. But I never got discouraged about it and, right or wrong, I never stopped thinking that it was worthwhile.
I find this the utlimate proof that the artist is always speaking to us, always, through his art, trying to better the world with the gift he was given.
This book has 190 pages, end papers, many, many color and black and whites of the artist's work. It measures 14" by 11" by 1" and weighs 4 pounds!
