In 1962 Pontiac built approximately 179 special cars for racing known as: SUPER DUTY CARS. the "Packer Pontiac" was #84 of the special cars built for racing. Owned and campaigned by Howard Maseles in 1962 1962 was the first year you could buy a hot Poncho right off the assembly line. The Super Duty package cost $1,334.24 over the cost of the standard Catalina V-8. The four-speed transmission cost another $234.00. The "Packer Pontiac" has the 421, two-four engine, four-speed tranny with the Hurst-Campbell floor shifter with heavy duty linkage set-up supplies by Pontiac and 4:33 posi-track rear. The "Packer Pontiac" competed i NHRA's toughest division, racing against other factory supported teams from Detroit. The '62 "Packer Pontiac" was an NHRA C Stock record holder. The Packer Pontiac posted best times of 11:73 and 118 mph during the 1952 season and set the fastest time at INDY. The restoration of this vintage Super Duty Pontiac was done by owner Bill Blair, High Point, NC and the car is still being campaigned by Bill across the country at drag strips and car shows ALONG WITH THE FACT THAT PONTIAC MOTOR DIVISION IS GOING TO BE PHASED OUT, IS ONE MORE REASON TO COLLECT THIS CAR!
