Up for auction is this lovable 1966 Fender Jazz Bass. This is a fantastic 'player', in good condition for a 42 year old instrument. The body has been resprayed, and the neck/headstock appears to have been relaquered with nitrocellulose. The Olympic-white has gone quite yellow, so I estimate it was resprayed probably >25 years ago.
This bass would suit a bassist looking for that 60's Fender vibe, feel and tone. Sounds great, feels right.
There are a few dings on the body and neck (as shown in pictures). The headstock has a minor crack at the E string tuner, and has been repaired (as shown in picture). More pictures available on request.
I bought this bass from a musician from Newcastle NSW in 2005, who'd had it shipped to Australia from Rumble Seat Music in NY, USA. I am selling it because I rarely play it anymore (new baby and another on the way). I am putting it up as a starting bid at significantly lower price than it is worth in any market as I need to sell it soon.
This beautiful instrument features:
- Dot inlay in beautiful Brazilian rosewood fretboard with binding (rare)
- Frets in excellent condition
- Serial number 168709,
- Neck stamped 7 June, 1966.
Original hardware:
- Original Hard Shell Case
- Pickups / pickup screws. Pickups sound fantastic and have that warm, yet punchy vintage tone
- Bridge - Chrome plated steel bridge plate with nickel plated threaded steel saddles
- Strap buttons
- Neckplate (also comes with new Genuine Fender neck screws)
- Nickel Tulip Tuners, with the exception of one peg screw, replaced w/ SS w/ correct thread
- String guide (tree) on headstock
- Knobs
- Nut
Non-Original Hardware:
- Pickguard (Genuine Fender) Jazz Bass Tortoise Shell Pickguard. Four-ply, top layer is nitrocellulose tortoise shell plastic like the old ones.
- Waxed cotton covered 22 gauge stranded tinned high quality copper wire made for Angela Instruments by the same company that made it for Fender in the old days.
- Pots (Genuine Fender)
- Tone capacitor (From Angela's - Angela Tin Foil Signal Capacitor, .047/630VDC, Made in France by SCR for Angela Instruments
- Input Jack (Genuine Fender)
- Thumb Rest (Genuine Fender)
- Bass comes with supplementary Genuine Fender nickel-plated screws for pickguard, neck and bridgeplate. Original screws are on the bass.
