Purchased instrument in 1977 I was told it was a 1967 Flying V. Serial numbers checked through Gibson by an independent guitar Luiter ( Don Banzer) before I purchased it. I was told numbers matched, and the guitar was as described. I have owned this instrument ever since. I had a stainless steel face plate made and installed in 1978, also had turners, tail piece, bridge, and one of the orginal pickups changed. Done by professional, not self installed. I had the "Faith No More" guitar look before they came out! I saved and have orginal parts to instrument as pictured, except for bridge, and truss rod cover at this time. I have not been able to locate them yet because of moving. I do hope to locate soon, even saved orginal screws which are included. Instrument is in orginal Gibson case, case is rough did use guitar for many years. I have several instruments, this one no longer fits my needs. I've moved onto a Strat, a 335 and an Acoustic. Sort of hard to sit and play jazz or country with a V. Good condition, well taken care of, sweet sound, but the time has come to pass it on. Too nice an instrument to be sitting in the case, it was meant to be played. I will answer any questions you may have if I'm able too...HAPPY BIDING
# Note; I HAD GUITAR APPRAISED IN 1994, WAS ADVISED WAS 1967. I CHECKED THRU GIBSON MYSELF A FEW YEARS AGO WAS ADVISED BY GIBSON IT WAS A 1967MODEL, OR POSABLE AN EARLY 1968
I RECENTLY APPROACHED A LOCAL MUSIC STORE ABOUT BUYING / SELLING THE GUITAR. THEIR REPAIR MAN AFTER A DAY STATED HE FELT IT WAS A 1967 MODEL.
THEN CHANGED OPINION TWO DAYS LATER, STATED HE THOUGHT IT WAS A 1970 MODEL, DISCUSSION CENTERED UPON PRICE.
I WOULD BE INCLINED TO BELIEVE THE ORGINAL INDEPENDENT APPRAISALS, OF 1977 & 1994. THERE WAS NO DISCUSSION ABOUT SALE OR PURCHASE OF GUITAR.
IT IS STILL A VINTAGE INSTRUMENT AND RARE TO FIND.
NO OUT OF COUNTRY BIDS ACCEPTED, MAIN LAND USA ONLY.
On Oct-04-09 at 18:15:52 PDT, seller added the following information:I received several E-Mails about this guitar and it seems the instrument is apparently not a 1967 as I was told 32 years ago. I've received more information for free here that what I got when I paid for it....Live and learn. The instrument seems to be an early 70's to 74 or 75 model, the pots numbers can't be read well. I can only read 3 numbers because of the solder connections. they appear to be ?370?? thats all I can see. I don't want to move the wiring around because it is the orginial and I don't want to break connections.
On Oct-06-09 at 07:27:32 PDT, seller added the following information:To answer another question. There were no modifications to body, no routing was ever done. The face plate was used as a templet by the designer to make the stainless steel one shown. So that it would fit like the factory one without any modification. The tail piece mounting posts are the orginals, the tuning tailpiece was purchased to fit the orginal posts. The brige post and height adjustment disks are also the orginals. The brass bridge was purchased to fit the orginal post. I did not want to alter the body in any way. I intended on returning it to stock some day. I am also still trying to locate the orginal bridge. I have it but it is packed away someplace due to moving. Who ever purchases the instrument I do intend on sending the bridge to them when or if I locate it. My wife and I did see it not long ago, and it was put away so it would not be lost. I apparently put it away too good, and can't remember where, should have left it in the box where we saw it in the first time.
