HERE'S  THE  TIMELINE  OF  THE  LINCOLN  CENT
1909  WAS THE 1st YEAR THAT LINCOLN CENTS WERE STRUCK, TO MARK THE 100th ANNIVERSARY OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S BIRTH. SHORTLY AFTER THE CENT WAS RELEASED TO THE PUBLIC, THE "VDB" WAS REMOVED FROM THE REVERSE OF THE COIN. UNDER 28 MILLION WERE STRUCK WITH THE "VDB" INITIALS IN PHILADELPHIA, AND ONLY 484,000 AT SAN FRANCISCO!
IN  1918  THE INITIALS WERE RESTORED TO THE OBVERSE OF THE CENT, BARELY VISIBLE UNDER THE BUST OF LINCOLN.
IN 1943  BECAUSE OF A SHORTAGE OF COPPER, THE CENT'S COMPOSITION WAS CHANGED TO STEEL COATED WITH ZINC.
FROM  1944  to  1982  THE CENT RESUMED IT'S PRE WAR COMPOSITION OF 95% COPPER AND 5% ZINC.
IN  1959  THE REVERSE WAS CHANGED TO SHOW THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL ON THE 150th ANNIVERSARY OF LINCOLN'S BIRTH.
IN  1968  LINCOLN'S HEAD WAS MADE MORE DISTINCT FOR A BETTER APPEARANCE.
IN  1969  THE ENTIRE OBVERSE WAS REDONE.  ALL LETTERING IS FURTHER FROM THE RIM, HAIR IS CURLIER, EAR IS LONGER, NOSTRIL CAN NO LONGER BE SEEN, CHEEK BONE HAS DEFINITION, AND THE TIE AND JACKET ARE MUCH MORE DISTINCT!
IN  1973  THE REVERSE WAS CHANGED & THE "FG" INITIALS WERE NOW MUCH LARGER.
THEN IN  1974  THE "FG" INITIALS WERE REDUCED AGAIN.
IN  1982  THE COMPOSITION OF THE CENT WAS CHANGED TO 97.6% ZINC & 2.4% COPPER, AND THE DATE ALSO CAME IN SMALL AND LARGE SIZES.  THERE WERE 7 VARIETIES THAT YEAR.  THERE WERE MANY FEWER ZINC CENTS MINTED AT PHILADELPHIA THAT YEAR.
AND  NOW,  IN  2009 ,  WITH  4  DIFFERENT  REVERSES  TO  THE  2009  LINCOLN  CENT, 
PRICES  ARE  CLIMBING  MUCH  HIGHER  ON  ALL  LINCOLN  CENTS, 
ESPECIALLY  KEY  DATES,  AND  BU MEMORIAL  ROLLS,  OUR  SPECIALTY !
