For sale is a beautiful and incredibly playable 1972 Gibson ES-335TD (SN: 106076) in walnut stain. This guitar has the original case and owners manual and has been set up professionally with low action. I have been a guitar tech for about 20 years and this particular Gibson plays like an absolute dream. Of the many top shelf guitars that I own, this has the fastest neck I have experienced even when compared to modern adversaries. The pickups were replaced in the 70’s with, I believe..Seymour Duncan’s, a popular replacement for that time period, though I am not certain. I can tell you that whoever made this change knew exactly what they were doing as the sound is strong and articulate. These pickups have been on this guitar for so long and played to such an extent that the top corner of the bridge pickup has a soft, worn edge (see pic). The original trapeze tailpiece has been professionally replaced with a stop-bar with micro tuners, which was a common upgrade on early ES-335's as the stop-bar provides more tuning stability and sustain. This change has no effect on the value of the guitar as stated in the current Guitar Player Price Guide as it's considered a favorable upgrade. Also, there is the addition of a phase/coil tap switch that turns the humbuckers into a throaty single coil, jangly sound that is one of the main reasons I have kept this guitar for so long. It simply has some of the most wonderful tones that are very distinguishable in any mix and are very musical to the human ear with an almost bell-like, vocal quality. This Gibson has never been in abusive hands and has signs of being a respected player for over 36 years. I hate to part with this guitar but financial reasons dictate that it needs a new home. The neck is perfectly straight, broken in and and extremely comfortable. It has been safe in my smoke free studio for a long time and has only seen a handful of live shows whilst in my custody. The sound and playability of this guitar floors people and I can promise you from one very particular guitarist to another, you will not be disappointed in this guitars tone and feel.
