Reproduction Prints of the 1976 U.S. Patent
for the Gibson Les Paul Signature Guitar
Launched in 1973, the Les Paul Signature was Gibson's final attempt at finding acceptance for low -impedance pickups. Finished in vintage gold and featuring an ES-style thinline body and dual outputs (one low-impedance jack on the face of the guitar and a normal, high impedance jack in the usual location), I believe that a variation of this body shape was resurrected a few years ago for a spruce-topped model from the Gibson Custom
Shop.
Filed in September of 1974, this patent was awarded on July 27, 1976 to Stan Rendell (who had been made President of CMI's Gibson operation in 1968) and was assigned to then-current Gibson parent company, Norlin Music.
A very rare and unusual Gibson and certainly a nice item for display by the Les Paul fanatic.
Consisting of two drawing sheets, the entire design patent is included in this auction, printed in black on artist quality, acid-free, 60-pound parchment style paper as shown above.
