This auction is for the 1979 Gundam Super Combination DX Gattai Set. It is in mint condition in its original box.
Behold Gundam. The great grandfather of the Japanese "real robot"
revolution. The design loved first before all others by the Gundam-crazy Japanese. The Kunio Ohkawara design that launched a merchandising franchise that -- in the year 2006 -- is responsible for a considerable chunk of Sunrise and Bandai's cashflow, and leaves us with untold heaps of Gundam goods roaring out of Japan monthly. Gundam is so big to Bandai, there is a corporate officer named to look after the brand -- yes, it's the CGO, or Chief Gundam Officer. Gundam is so big to Japan, some schools have closed for a day to sponsor a Gundam hobby contest for their students.
Gundam today is a icon of high-realism, obsessive detail, and endless techno babble aimed firmly at adults. But Gundam wasn't always so. In the early days of the original show, way back in 1979, Clover sold toys aimed at children. Yes, they sold real toys with metal and spring missiles -- not the rubbery action figures sold today that are more suited to photography than playtime.
This is Clover's Gundam Super Combination DX Gattai Set with the Toy Photo box . With Clover's Gundam, you can experience one of the very first Gundam toys ever made from the Old School days. It features 4 different ships the G-Sky, G-Bull, G-Armor and G-Fighter that do what else but combine into a SUPER GUNDAM!
After Clover's collapse, there really weren't any more Gundam toys made en masse until nostalgic revival years later. You can see Gundam as the world saw him in 1979 -- another robot cartoon that pumped out rocket punch toys
-- and life was good.
We are offering this rare piece up today with NO RESERVE and a low starting bid. Happy bidding and GOOD LUCK!
