NATIONAL BASEBALL HALL OF FAME
1985 INDUCTION
PRESS PIN
Made by the Balfour Co.
Comes with Original Balfour Box
The inductees were Lou Brock, Enos Slaughter, Arky Vaughn, and Wilhelm.
Since the 1911 World Series Press Pins have been given as passes to press members covering the games. The Cincinnati Reds were the first team to issue press pins for an All Stars game in 1938. In that same year the only baseball writer to ever be inducted into the Hall of Fame was Henry Chadwick who died before his induction. In 1982 The Baseball Hall of Fame began to issue press pins at it's induction ceremonies with the names of the years inductees printed on the pins.
Press Pins were given to members of the press, hall of fame members, inductees and baseball dignitaries. These pins were not available to the public.
Now days the press pin is given as a gift, a gesture of goodwill to the press. It no longer serves as a Press member pass.
This pin is in excellent condition. It has no dents, missing paint/color. A few small surface scratches show on the bat areas, very minor.
This 1985 HOF Induction Pin would be a very nice addition to your collection.
