Description:

Sinclair Bay was built in 1990 by Niels Erik Hansen, in Dyerborg, Denmark. She was designed as a dreamboat collaboration between the owners and the Danish Naval Architect John Sorensen.

The result of this collaboration was a beautiful, solid, incredibly well built motor sailor, that is perfect for a couple, and guests to cruise in comfort and style wherever they may want to go.

The quality of craftsmanship and careful thought that went into this boat is evident in every detail of her hull, interior,   her systems, and rigging.

We just delivered her overnight to Quonset Point, RI.  She moved along nicely with a light breeze from the quarter.  Her sails looked great, and pulled the boat along beautifully.  Though it was below freezing outside, we stayed fairly warm in the pilot house.  Every system worked perfectly.  She took on very little water through her stuffing box.

She is in almost perfect condition.  She is a wooden boat.  She will require the care and attention of someone who knows and understands wooden boats, and is willing to maintain her to a high standard.

Layout/ interior:

Forward she has a double berth off center to starboard, surrounded in beautiful teak tones.  The forward hatch provides plenty of light and air, while the watertight portlight alows in even more light.  Aft of the berth to port is a very large hanging locker, with plenty of room for a full wardrobe for two.

To starboard, her head is spacious, with a marine toilet, a sink, and plenty of storage.

The galley is truly special with pressurized water, a great Optimus two burner CNG stove, and an incredibly efficient, low energy Isotherm refrigerator. The galley has a good amount workspace, and plenty of extra storage space.

Oposite the galley is the main cabin table and benches with room for four.  The table dpos to create a very comfortable double guest bunk.

Her Pilot house is a perfect union of form and function.  The traditional helm station is on the starboard side.  It has everything you need, and nothing you don’t- From the easily readable Ritchie compass, to the wheel, her engine controls, to her custom carved drop away captain’s seat.  To port is a very comfortable bench/ locker containing safety equipment, PFDs, a flair kit, Med kit, etc.  Access to the engine is easy via the hatch in the center of the pilot house.

Aft is the incredibly charming rear cockpit.  The removable varnished teak table begs to be set at sunset dinners for four.  The cockpit is fully enclosed in canvas that can be easily removed in sections to allow air on sweet summer days.  Sail controls are also reached easily from the cockpit. There is plenty of stowage under each of the benches.

Hull/Decks:

Her hull is in perfect shape.  Each year the boat has been hauled out in the spring for maintenance, inspection, and a fresh coat of paint topsides and bottom.

Her teak decks are spacious and laid out for easy boat handling.  They are in great shape.  Access to the mast and boom are easy from atop the cabin house deck.

Sails & Rigging:

Her main is in great shape, as is her Genoa.  The Genoa is loaded onto a Harken MK 2 roller furling system. All sheets, and roller reefing controls lead aft to the aft cockpit.

Her mast and boom are in great shape.  The boom has been stored inside and varnished each winter.

The standing rigging is simple, high, quality, and overbuilt, like the rest of the boat.

Her running rigging is in great shape with many seasons left on most halyards, and sheets.

Engine:

Her original Perkins Prima M50 engine has been meticulously maintained throughout the life of the boat.  It has been kept winterized and heated each winter.  She has a Velvet Drive series 71C transmission with a 2.91:1 ratio.

Access to the engine is easy via a pull away hatch in the pilot house.

Electrical:

Her Deep cycle 12 volt engine charged battery runs all systems on the boat.  The electric panel is neatly laid out and labeled in Danish (very easy to tell what is what).  Everything works perfectly.

There is a basic lighting system throughout the boat that provides plenty of light.

The isotherm ASU- SP refrigeration system draws very little while keeping everything cool.  You do not have to have the engine running to run it.

Electronics:

Sailor 2048 VHF radio

Uniden depth sounder

Handheld

Some extra equipment:

Projects/Issues:

We are currently giving her a fresh oat of paint on her hull.  Some of her varnished areas could be sanded down to bare wood, bleached and re finished.

Terms of Sale

Sinclair Bay” meant the world to her donors.  We have sworn to make certain that she ends up in the correct hands.  Winning the bid is the first step.  The winning bidder must be able to show the financial ability, and know-how to maintain her to a high standard.  We reserve the right to refuse to charter this boat until we are satisfied that she will be properly cared for.

Because this boat was donated, it is part of our three year charter program. At the end of the three year charter period, the high bidder has the exclusive option to purchase the boat. All charter payments go towards the purchase price of the boat. The purchase price will be determined by the high bid of this auction. 90% of the winning bid will cover the three year charter period and will be due at the signing of the charter agreement. The remaining 10% balance of the high bid will be due at the termination of the charter should the winning bidder exercise the option to purchase the boat at the end of three years. The lease may be transferred or sold by the charterer during that three year period, but we still hold the title.

Therefore, our buyers pay 90% of the full price for, and have full and exclusive use of, the boat during the three year charter period. During the charter, the boat will be registered by us for the winning bidder. The winning bidder will be responsible for the cost of registering and insuring the boat. There are no restrictions on where the boat is berthed.

For example, a bidder bids $20,000 and he wins the auction at $20,000. He then pays Block Island Maritime Funding 90% of the selling price ($18,000) and we hold the title for 3 years. For those 3 years, the boat is officially chartered to the high bidder. During which time he can operate, repair, or restore the boat at his own expense. At the end of 3 years, he can pay us the remaining 10% ($2,000) and the title to the boat will be transferred.

Please don't hesitate to contact us about our charter program and to read a blank copy of our charter/purchase agreement, visit our eBay page by clicking on the red "me" next to our feedback score.

SECOND CHANCE OFFERS: We've been having a problem with people offering fraudulent second chance offers after the auction is over. Anyone bidding may receive what looks like a legitimate offer for a second chance after the auction is over but if it doesn't have my email address (ebay@blockislandmaritime.com) then it didn't come from us. Please report all fraudulent second chance offers to eBay.  If the second chance offer does come from the above, it is real.  The best thing to do is to contact us via ebay messages to confirm.  We usually check our messages twice a day.
