All of the Longaberger baskets I have listed are pre-owned unless otherwise stated. Please take this into consideration. If there are any obvious flaws, they will be noted, however, you should expect some dust and possibly a rub or two on any basket, and especially one that is 10+ years old. A few stray pet hairs may also be present. Remember, these baskets have been displayed in their owner's home.

Some Facts From Longaberger Baskets

Each Longaberger Basket is handcrafted of maple by an american artisian. The basketmaker creates a sturdy bottom for the basket and attaches it to a form. Addone one row at a time, the basetmaker passes the wet weaves over and under the upsplints, tapping the weaving tightly together. Finishing touches are added, and in the Longaberger tradition, the basketmaker proudly initials and dates the basket. The result is a handmade work of art that you and your family can use and cherish for generations to come.

Making a basket is an art, not a science. While machines produce perfection, Longaberger's expert basketmakers combine their artistry with the natural imperfections of wood to create one of a kind collectibles. Distinguishing details include:

Hairline Cracks: As the Basket Dries, small Hairline Cracks may form around the tacks on the wooden trim stip. This is natural and does not weaken your basket.

Turn Under: J.W. Longaberger always wrapped his trim strip under the band, we call this a turn under. Turn unders may fray because wood doesn not bend easily.

Stain: Different pieces of wood absorb stain differently and colored accent weaves will leave colored stain on the upsplints underneath.

Adjustment: As the basket dries, each weave shrinks about 1/32", leaving a small space between the rows, fee free to adjust the weaves gently up or down.
Caring For Your Basket
To clean your basket, gently dust the weaves with a soft, dry brush on a periodic basis.
Do not soak or spray your basket with water. Color weaving, when damp, may bleed onto other weaving, fabrics, carpets or furnishings. Do not store your basket in a damp basement. Keep away from hot or cold air vents and direct sunlight, which can cause premature aging of your basket.
