WHERE IT ALL STARTED.. 1999 SILVER PROOF STATE QUARTER SET Inaugural year of the U.S. Mint State Quarter Program was 1999. Congress authorized the mintage of Five SILVER PROOF State Quarters per year in the order in which they were admitted to this Union and granted statehood. By Congressional edic, each silver proof quarter would weigh 6.25 grams of 90% Silver content. The Mint's inexperience would result in this year being the Mint's LOWEST production mintage of only 804,565 sets! Little did they know that this fact would seal the golden destiny awaiting these sets, to become the most sought after silver sets in the history of the U.S. Mint!
This auction is for one of those 1999 SILVER PROOF sets, which consists of the following pristine coins:
I. STATE QUARTERS: This is the primary or 1st case which houses the FIVE quarters released in 1999, as follow: (1) DELAWARE: Reverse: "The First State". Description: Celebrates Caesar Rodney's historic horseback ride in 1776. (2) PENNSYLVANIA: Reverse: "The Keystone State". Description: Depicts the statue "Commonwealth" an outline of the state's topography, the state motto, and a keystone. (3) NEW JERSEY: Obverse: "Crossroads of the Revolution".
