Butter Churn

An extremely rare 6 gallon stoneware butter churn with a cobalt blue cornucopia design. This was purchased in Pennsylvania, and is believed to be of Pennsylvania or New York origin, and dates to 1860-1880. The cobalt is thick and vibrant & is very well detailed. It stands 19 1/2" tall and 9 1/2" in diameter at the top and bottom. There is a very small chip to the left side of one handle and a hairline that runs 5" just above the design, which can be faintly seen on the inside. The inside rim has some very small fleabites from when it was used as a churn (see pictures). These are only mentioned for accuracy & do not hurt the integrity of the piece, it diplays very well. Unusual and rare designs like this will only go up in value. There are no other cracks, chips or hairlines. I have only seen this design twice in stoneware books or price guides. Both times this particular design brought between $9,000-$15,000, and neither was this detailed or large. I am listing this exceptional piece with NO RESERVE!! This is a very heavy piece of stoneware, it weighs roughly 25-30 lbs. Please see my other auctions for more great early primitives and folk art (pictured).

Payment expected within 7 days of auction's end, item will be shipped UPS ground. Insurance is included in the price listed for shipping, this churn will be double boxed and packed very carefully. International bidders, please contact me for a shipping quote. If you have any questions regarding this item, please email me before bidding, so that I may provide additional information and / or pictures.
