Description:

A rare, large and heavily potted early 19th C, late Rama II period royal Lai Nam Thong covered bowl with flaring sides raised on a ring foot and matching cover decorated with blossoming peonies against a gilt ground. Beneath the rim on the exterior and interior is a pendent floral border. The visible Chinese influence of decoration is a typical feature on many Lai Nam Thong pieces made during the Rama II period, in this case the style of the opulent and feminine elegance of the peony floral decor. The large size of the bowl is also typical for this period. The rim of the bowl, top of cover and its rim are encased with a metal band.
