PANArt Hang First Generation Pyeong Jo Scale
Up for auction is my First Generation PANArt Hang or Hang
Drum. Built in 2005, this is one of the
later First Generations produced, number 4208.
The 9 notes, in rising pitch, are: F (center ding), C, D, F,
A, Bb, C, D, F. This is generally a
bright, cheerful set of notes, similar to a Pentatonic F (which has a G instead
of the Bb this Pyeong Jo has). Besides a
number of notes in F Major and Bb Major, it also has a number of notes of a D
minor scale, which sound a bit darker. Overall
it has warm, rich, and melodic tones—the overtones of the lower notes can be
very strong (or less pronounced depending on how it’s played).
I have included a diagram of the fundamental tones (larger
letters in the center) and harmonics (smaller letters) of each note. The lines indicate links between the same
pitches.
All the notes are in good tune. A couple things I want to mention to be as
complete as possible: the Bb, for some
reason, needs to be played a bit softer than the other notes. I don’t consider this to be a major issue,
but want to provide an accurate description.
There is also a part of the ding that is not quite as shiny as the rest,
and there are some marks on the top surface.
In my opinion, they are solely cosmetic, but bidders should understand
this is not a brand new drum in pristine condition. Overall, I consider all of these things to be
small, but I also want the winning bidder to be satisfied with their purchase.
I have recorded some simple videos on youtube to give
bidders a sense of the scale and tuning.
I am neither an expert videographer nor hang player, but hopefully these
give a reasonable idea of how the instrument sounds. Like most recordings, I think the hang will
sound much richer in person.

Comes with a cymbal bag (with strap and backpack straps)
which is a good fit for the hang. In
used but very functional condition.
Shipping in the lower 48 states of the U.S. will cost
$75.00. This will require a large box,
and plenty of packing material. I will
take good care to make sure this instrument is well protected in its journey to
the winning bidder. For locations other
than the contiguous 48 states, buyer to pay actual shipping costs. Insurance is additional, and will cost 1% of
the insured value (buyer can decide how much coverage they want).
If you have additional questions, please ask! However, I am not interested in ending the
listing early for a private sale.
On May-05-08 at 05:18:51 PDT, seller added the following information:Just want to be clear--winning bidder to decide if they want insurance, and how much (I can't imagine purchasing an item of this value and NOT getting insurance, but it's really up to the winning bidder). Amount of insurance will depend somewhat on the final selling price and the wishes of the winning bidder. I have shipped with DHL with insurance before, and the cost was 1% of the insured value, so please use that as an estimate when considering total costs. The shipping I charge will be based on actual cost--I'm NOT looking to make money off the shipping charges. Also note that winning bidder is responsible for any customs duties, if they are assessed on an international shipment.
