About Sari Silk Yarn: The rich, color-fast jewel tones give this yarn a wonderful depth of color. Since this yarn is not created in dye lots, every skein is unique and will produce one-of-a-kind, dramatic results when knitted up. 

1^st Quality Soft Sari Silk Yarn: This is the highest quality recycled sari silk yarn available, including leading yarn shops or from other websites. The yarn is 100% silk and is softer than most sari silk.  While still maintaining the beautiful color variations that make sari silk yarn unique, the colors of this yarn are deeper, richer and more consistent than other sari silks.  The colors are deep reds, purples, greens and blues without too much variation from skein to skein.  The yarn thickness is more consistent than other sari silks, within the same skein, and from skein to skein.  We do our best to ensure the yarn is odor free.

How the Yarn is Made: Our yarn is made from the same silk used to make the colorful saris worn by many women in South Asia.  When saris are made on a mill, the ends of the silk fabric are trimmed off.  To keep this beautiful silk from going to waste, the fibers from the trimmed ends are spun into "recycled" (but still new) silk yarn.  This cottage spinning industry benefits women's development groups, helping them to generate additional income.

Knitting/Care Tips:  Worsted weight, suggested needle size US 8-10, gauge 12-16 stitches per 10 cm (3-4 stitches per inch).  Alternating skeins is recommended.  Some knitters mix this yarn with other types of yarn with wonderful results.  For purses, try knitting with a tighter tension.  For scarves, shawls and hats, try using larger needles and looser tension for a lovely lace effect.  Garments should be dry cleaned (preferred) or gently hand washed (cold water, do not wring, lay flat to dry).
