Yerba Mate Kit - Tea, Gourd, Bombilla

Stimulate The Economy

Welcome to My Yerba Mate Store Auctions
Good Luck in your bidding

This is a His and Hers Kit.

You are bidding on two (2) 1.1 Lbs. packages of very popular Argentine yerba mate. You get a 1.1 lb. of Nobleza Gaucha balanced blend yerba mate, and a 1.1 lb. of Orange flavoured Taragui brand yerba mate. Included are two beautiful hand made mate gourds, one
Charcoal Black and Natural Brown color with a polished Alpaca Silver rim and angular brace design and two 7.25 inch nickel plated bombillas.

These mate gourds were handmade without the utilization of complex tools by a skillful Argentine artisan.

We met Mario in Plaza Francia, a large park in Buenos Aires, on a Saturday morning in December 2008. Plaza Francia is a hub where artisans meet to display and sell their wares.

Mario makes many things from Alpaca Silver, these mates are one of them. He is a regular at Plaza Francia and he is well known among the artisans there. He creates beautiful Alpaca Silver ornamentation without the use of any modern tools for his mate gourds.

I sell Mario's mates because like many artisans there, he is a family man making an honest living off his craft.

I support as many artisans as I can in their efforts to provide a better quality of life for their families. I ask for your help in supporting the artisan who is featured in this auction by placing your bid now.

This is a great his and hers "one of a kind" kit at a great starting bid.

THIS IS THE NATIONAL DRINK OF ARGENTINA

These mate gourds were made from the gourd of the Lagenaria vulgaris plant. It is used to drink a tea-like beverage called mate.

These mate gourds are hand made. The Alpaca Silver ornamentation consists of a formed ring around the opening with braces connecting the ring and footing together.
They are approximately 3.00" tall and are Charcoal Black and golden brown in color and holds 6-7 fluid ounces of liquid each.

This unique Bombilla is nickel plated and has gold tone accents. It is curbed for ease of use, measures 7.25 inches long and is equipped with a heat sink that keeps the heat away from the drinkers lips. It is very easy to clean, just remove the threaded bulb and rinse with warm water and a mild detergent.

Nobleza Gaucha is a very popular mate manufacturer in Argentina. Grown and processed in the state of Misiones, in Molinos Río de la Plata's own plantations, this popular brand is aged for 18 months. This aging process gives this popular yerba its consistent smooth flavor.
Traditional mate drinkers prefer this Argentine brand over the more mellow and flavored yerba mates available today.

Established in 1924, Taragui yerba mate is grown and manufactured in Corrientes Argentina by Establecimiento Las Marías. It is one Argentina's most popular and recognized brands.
Tradition and technology is Establecimiento Las Marías motto.

They pick the yerba mate leaves by hand when they are mature to assure the superior quality of their yerba mate. Then it is dried, aged and milled under strict time honored guidelines.
The special air tight packaging compliments a distinctly unique yerba mate.

Establecimiento Las Marías packages several other brands of yerba mate products. Taragui yerba mate is its flagship brand.

Yerba Mate is an herb that is a traditional tea infusion used by the natives of South America. This tea-like beverage is consumed mainly in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and southern Brazil. It is brewed from the dried leaves and stems of the Yerba Mate tree
(Ilex paraguarensis).

The infusion is prepared from the leaves of the Maté tree, a native of the tropical rain forests of northeastern Argentina, eastern Paraguay and southern Brazil.
The Yerba is placed into the mate or gourd and hot water is added to create the infusion. The infusion is consumed through a traditional bombilla or straw that strains the herb.
This stimulating herbal drink is low in caffeine and carbohydrates and contains generous amounts of amino acids and antioxidants.

Yerba Maté reduces stress, boosts immunity, helps control appetite and stimulates the mind. Among many of the benefits enjoyed by drinking this infusion are improved digestion, cleansing of your blood and it slows aging.
This social drink enjoys tremendous popularity in Argentina where the ritual of sharing a mate with friends is a part of the fabric that holds that society together.

HOW TO PREPARE THE MATE INFUSION

  1. Fill your new mate gourd 1/2 to 3/4 of the way full with fresh Yerba Mate.
  2. Moisten the palm of your hand with a little water, put your hand over the top of the cup tightly and turn the cup upside down and shake it. This fine residue that sticks to the palm of your hand is what gives the mate a slightly bitter taste. You can wash it down the drain. You can do this two or three times before you prepare your first mate. (This step is optional)
  3. Warm the water in a tea or coffee pot. The water should never be allowed to boil. It makes the yerba mate bitter.
  4. Insert the bombilla in the gourd at a slight angle until it rests at the bottom of the gourd.
  5. Now you are ready to brew your yerba mate.
  6. Pour the hot water into the gourd, care should be taken not to overflow the water.
  7. The server (cebador) will drink the first mate completely to ensure that it flows and is free of debris. Then he refills the mate and passes it to the next drinker who likewise drinks it complete. The gourd can be refilled when it becomes washed or flat.
  8. Mate can be drunk "dulce o amargo" sweet or bitter. It can be sweetened with sugar or honey. Other herbs can be added to the yerba mate to enhance its flavor.
