Both Books by Gottfried Samuel Bäumler Gottfried Bäumler was a physician in Germershein, a town in today's German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Thi town is located near the cities of Speyer, Landau, etc. This region has been known as The Palatinate of the Rhine / Pfalzgrafschaft bei Rhein, and later was known as the Electoral Palatinate /Kurpfalz. Part of this region became the Rhenish Palatinate / Rheinpfalz, on the west bank of the Rhine River. The First Book: Mitleidiger Arzt (Compassionate Physician) This important medical book presents detailed instructions for home medical cures and medicine using herbal remedies and other medicine. This book was designed to be used at home, by nursing non-professionals. This pharmacy and medical book presents cures for today's alternative medicine / Medizin. The complete title of this medical book / Arzneibuch is: Mitleidiger Arzt, welcher überhaupt alle arme Kranke, insonderheit aber die abgelegene Landleute gründlich und aufrichtig lehret, wie sie mit gemeinen Hausmitteln und anderen nicht allzukostbaren Arzneyen sich selbsten curiren können. The book's title page says that this is the fifth edition, with additions to the text by Georg Heinrich Behr. This book was first published in 1731. This edition includes an introduction and additional text by Georg Heinrich Behr of Strassbourg / Straßburg / in the Alsace / Elsass region of today's France. This Georg Behr was the son of a surgeon. He studied medicine throughout Europe, including Boerhaave, Tübingen, Altorf, Vienna, Prague, Jena, Halle and Leipzig. He returned to Strasbourg in 1731. He served as Doctor of the Royal Auxiliary Military Hospital from 1734 to 1744. Plus he was the physician of Josef zu Hohenlohe-Pfedelbach, and the physician to the Prince of Sangusko, Lithuania. He is also remembered for authoring a booklet about the Strasbourg Cathedral, Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-Strasbourg. Subjects in this book include: colic, pediatrics, delerium, melancholy, mental illness, rheumatism, worms, parasitology, eye diseases, ophthalmology, fevers, swelling of the feet, podiatry, liver disease, lung problems, menstruation, gynecology, ringworm, Rhine wine (as a cure?), salves and ointments, bladder problems, warts, etc etc. The Second Book: Fever in Germersheim, Germany, in 1734This second book presents information about a plague or fever that struck Germersheim, Germany, in 1734. This book was first published in 1735. It is by the same author as the first book, and by the same publisher. Condition: Nice Condition. No library or institution markings. Pages are mostly clean, with only a few minor smudges or spots. Pages and cover are securely attached. The cover's suface is scuffed. The front cover has a small, one-inch crack to the joint along the edge of the spine.
