* Although there are 2 available,
the list price is for 1 door. If the quantity above is 1 this indicates 1
door sold and only 1 is available.
* If you are planning on buying only 1 door, email us after the
auction and let us know, which of the 2 you would like.
Lovely antique doors salvaged from Northeastern Massachusetts. Each
door has a solid heartpine (not white pine) core covered with oak veneers.
Please don't think "veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin
veneers used on modern furniture to disguise the inferior materials
underneath; these veneers are very thick and help strengthen and stabilize
the door, as well as protect it against warping. Solid oak doors would've
warped a long time ago.
Door#1 has 2 raised panels on the front and 2 recessed panels on
the back. The upper panel features a long, beveled, oval glass lite. On the
front side of the door, the perimeters of the panels are contoured with egg
and dart molding and the glass is contoured with beaded molding. Also on the
front side, in between the 2 panels there is a stepped ledge embellished
with beaded, dental, and egg and dart molding.
Door#2 has 2 raised panels on the front and 2 recessed panels on
the back. The upper panel features a long, oval glass lite. On the front
side of the door, the perimeter of the upper panel is contoured with egg and
dart molding. Also on the front side, in between the 2 panels there is a
stepped ledge embellished with dental and egg and dart molding.
Hardware:
The doors do not come equipped with any hardware. Currently, their stiles
are too narrow to house a lock (old or new). The previous owners installed the doors as a
pair and simply pushed them to open or close. They locked one or both doors in
place by using the slide lock located in the upper corners of the doors.
Unless you plan to use them in the same fashion, you will need to add to the
width of these doors. We've done this with several doors in the past, and we
could certainly do it with these doors. Email and tell us how wide you would
like one or both doors, and we'll give you a quote.
Condition: Both doors are quite heavy, strong, and sturdy.
They are in great shape with only minor scrapes and scratches. Door#1 is
missing some of the decorative beading around the glass, and Door#2 is
missing some of the molding from the back side of the mirror. We can't make
beaded molding, but we could make curved, straight molding like the kind
missing from Door#2--email us for a quote.
Glass on both doors is intact with no breaks, cracks, or chips.
Modification: We didn't strip the doors incase you like
them as is, or if you would like to have them repainted. However, we could
strip (fully or partially if you plan to paint them), refinish or repaint,
reduce or increase height or width, remove hardware and patch holes, etc. We
could also build a frame for the doors, make casing, etc. Email us with a
small description of what you would like done and we'll give you a quote.
