2 Vtg Towle Silver Shell Shaped Dishes Contessina
In our mother's eyes, we were fortunate to live within 20 minutes of the Towle Silversmith Factory in Newburyport Mass. In our father's eyes, not so much. Every payday, we would just happen to find ourselves in Newburyport and a stop to the factory was a given. She collected everything Towle from Christmas medallions to figurines. These two bon bon dishes were two of her finds.
The pattern is Contessina, an extremely popular pattern produced by Towle beginning in 1965 through 1996. These pieces are from the earlier days, circa 1970s. Especially pretty in design, they are in the shape of a scallop shell with a heavily embossed pattern of daisies, roses and other flowers at the handle. At the widest point, they measure almost 7 1/2".
Both dishes are identical. One still has the silver & black foil label indicating Towle as the manufacturer, the pattern name Contessina and E.P. for silverplate E.P.
We researched these pieces on online replacement sites. The shell shaped bon bon dishes were not available but another bon bon bowl at about the same size was listed for replacement at $49.99. We estimate the value of this auction to be $80 to $85.00.
We will be listing several silverplate items within the next two weeks. Most of the silver items are either vintage or antique. Please add us to your favorites or check back frequently. We will combine shipping whenever possible.
