The Sisters Shoppe
The Sisters Shoppe was started in 2000 by sisters Sandra Lee Neefe and Teal Ann Burns-Shaffer. In 1998, Sandra home schooled her oldest daughter and was required to teach her Pennsylvania history. Living between Valley Forge National Park and Gettysburg National Park made it easy. On a weekend trip to Gettysburg we acquired some education ourselves. The Re-enactors in Civil War Era outfits and the Sutlers in the town of Gettysburg intrigued us. We made ourselves some outfits and went to Gettysburg in September 1998 for a living history weekend. Our first outfits were completely historically incorrect. We had the basic idea but the fabrics, trim and our hairstyles were all wrong. So we researched and remade clothing historically correct, then returned to Gettysburg. In August of 2000 our local county park (Hibernia) hosted a weekend re-enactment. We made a canvas sutler tent and clothing for all 24 of our family members and attended the event. We have been ~stepping back in time~ ever since.
