The Foundation Trilogy is one of the foundation works of science fiction. It was awarded a special Hugo in 1966 for All Time Best Science Fiction Series. Not really a trilogy, it collects five novelettes and four novellas, that were originally published in book form as three books (Foundation, Foundation and Empire, and Second Foundation). The book contains three full page color pictures painted by many times Hugo Award winning artist Michael Whelan. The introduction is by SFWA Grand Master James Gunn.

Synopsis:
The first volume of the "Foundation" trilogy is essentially a reworking of the fall of the Roman Empire written as a vast, all-encompassing science fiction opera. It is such a well-conceived and elaborate a social and political autopsy that, even after Asimov's death in 1992, books set inside the Foundation universe continue to be written.
Publisher's Note: For twelve thousand years the Galactic Empire has ruled supreme. Now it is dying. But only Hari Sheldon, creator of the revolutionary science of psychohistory, can see into the future--to a dark age of ignorance, barbarism, and warfare that will last thirty thousand years. To preserve knowledge and save mankind, Seldon gathers the best minds in the Empire--both scientists and scholars--and brings them to a bleak planet at the edge of the Galaxy to serve as a beacon of hope for a fututre generations. He calls his sanctuary the Foundation.
But soon the fledgling Foundation finds itself at the mercy of corrupt warlords rising in the wake of the receding Empire. Mankind's last best hope is faced with an agonizing choice: submit to the barbarians and be overrun--or fight them and be destroyed.
Synopsis:
The second volume of Asimov's legendary "Foundation" trilogy continues in the analysis of a falling--and fallen--empire.
Publisher's Note:
Led by its founding father, the great psycho-historian Hari Seldon, and taking advantage of its superior science and technology, the Foundation survived the greed and barbarism of its neighboring warrior-planets. Yet now it must face the Empire--still the mightiest force in the Galaxy, even in its death throes. When an ambitious general determined to restore the Empire's glory turns the vast Imperial fleet toward the Foundation, the only hope for the small planet of scholars and scientists lies in the prophecies of Hari Seldon. But not even Hari Seldon could have predicted the birth of the extraordinary creature called the Mule-a mutant intelligence with a power greater than a dozen battle fleets. . .a power that could turn the strongest-willed human into an obedient slave.
The Foundation has managed to preserve humanculture and shorten the period of chaotic barbarism after the Galactic Empire began to decay. But the Foundation still faces great challenges in its struggle to survive.
Synopsis: The third volume of the legendary "Foundation" trilogy concludes this initial analysis of a fallen empire (Asimov and others have further explored it in many other books).
Publisher's Note: Isaac Asimov's Foundation novels are one of the great masterworks of science fiction. As unsurpassed blend of nonstop action, daring ideas, and extensive world-building, they chronicle the struggle of a courageous group of men and women dedicated to preserving humanity's light in a galaxy plunged into a nightmare of ignorance and violence thirty thousand years long.
After years of struggle, the Foundation lies in ruins—destroyed by the mutant mind power of the Mule. But it is rumored that there is a Second Foundation hidden somewhere at the end of the Galaxy, established to preserve the knowledge of mankind through the long centuries of barbarism. The Mule failed to find it the first time—but now he is certain he knows where it lies.
The fate of the Foundation rests on young Arcadia Darell, only fourteen years old and burdened with a terrible secret. As its scientists gird for a final showdown with the Mule, the survivors of the First Foundation begin their desperate search. They too want the Second Foundation destroyed…before it destroys them.

Shipping History:
We have shipped well over 3,000 packages (containing more than 5,700 items), with more than 500 of those packages going to international destinations, since we started selling on in 2002 (Click here to see where we've shipped). As of September 16, 2009, we have had only five packages reported as lost, three to U.S. destinations and two to international destinations (Australia and Spain - destinations we have also shippped to successfully many times). We have not had a report of a book damaged in transit since shortly after we started selling (it took us a couple of damaged shipments to learn not to pack books in boxes that were too tight a fit).

California Sales Tax
Items shipped to addresses outside California are not subject to sales tax.
Unless you are a reseller with a valid California Seller's Permit buying this item to resell, we are required by California law to collect sales tax for all items shipped to or delivered to addresses in California or picked up from our location. The checkout system cannot handle the complexities of sales tax in California where the sales tax rate varies by where the item is being delivered. We have setup the shipping calculator to charge sales tax at 9.5% for those who do not want to wait for us to invoice you. If you wait for our invoice, we will adjust the sales tax to be correct for the location you say we will be shipping to.
California resellers need to provide us with your permit number before we can remove the sales tax from your invoice.
