Description of "Nordic Gold"

Nordic Gold as it is known to many collectors and dealers is Not Real Gold! The term in my item description is not meant to mislead anyone into believing that you are buying a gold coin because you are not. Nordic Gold is an alloy used by various world mints in the production of their circulating coins and although it looks like real gold, it is not. Its composition is the following;

89% copper, 5% aluminum, 5% zinc and 1% tin.

The term Nordic Gold is often used by some unscrupulous sellers in hopes of misleading the buyer to think that he or she is buying a real gold coin when the fact remains that it is not. So. Cal. Coins & Collectables values its reputation and will never knowingly misrepresent any of the collectables offered. The coins that you are considering were graded and encapsulated by one of the world's most repestecd third party grader, PCGS.

FYI, this coin is absolutely a tough coin to get in a high grade due to the packaging of the Polish mint and the high reliefs on the cross and Pope John Paul. They were minted for circulation and not handled with care like in the production of proof coins whcih are specifically minted for collectors and not meant for circulation. These coins were put into 50 coin bags, sealed and sent and sent to Polish banks. That is one of the reasons that the ones offered on Ebay or anywhere else are sold in coin flips and not sent in for grading. It gets kind of costly to send coins in for grading only to receive them back as no grades. The coins that are offered in coin vinyl flips may have fingerprints, scratches and in many instances, they are coins that were pulled from circulation. I hope that this additional information will help determine whether or not to buy a graded coin versus a raw uncertified coin.

2003 PCGS MS64 Poland Pope John Paul II
25th Anniversary 2 Zloty Golden Coin

Up for your consideration is one of the most beautiful coins minted in Poland which depicts a true image of Pope John Paul II on the Obverse of the coin just the way we remember him in his last years. The coin was minted in the year 2003 to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the first Polish Pope.

As you already know, there are several coins out in the market place minted in 2005 by several world mints to include the Royal Canadian Mint, Polish Mint and the Government of Liberia to name a few.  If you are wondering why this coin is so special or better than any of the others, it is because the coin was minted when Pope John Paul II was still with us and nothing beasts the original.  The coin is no longer minted as 2003 was the only year that it was issued for circulation never to be minted again.

One thing that you need to keep in mind is that the coins that you are considering never made it into circulation so they do not have any fingerprints on them and very minimal bag markings. I was able to get one sealed bag of 50 coins a few years ago from someone in Poland and submitted them into PCGS. I have since then, purchased an additional 250 coins in sealed bags that will be part of a special project thanks to a good friend in New York. Once the project is completed, I will offer these coins to my customers in numbered sets of three coins with a special PCGS insert designed and exclusive to So. Cal. Coins & Collectables.

Pope John Paul II or Jan Pawee II as he was known to his People in Poland was a miracle worker spreading the word throughout the world often bridging the gaps between nations and religions, attempting to remove divisions created through history.

He was fluent in numerous languages: his native Polish and also Italian, French, German, EnglishSpanish, CroatianPortuguese, Russian and Latin.

  Below you will find a very moving tribute for Pope John Paul II created by someone on the web, I hope you enjoy it. S special thanks goes out to whom ever created it;

My tribute to John Paul II, Karol Wojtyla 1920-2005

Pope Benedicts XVI announcement on May 13, 2005 which coincidentally was the same date that there was an attempt on Pope John Paul II life.

"And now I have a very joyous piece of news for you"

May 13, 2005

Pope Benedict XVI said in Italian before making the announcement in Latin.

The Pope read out a letter from Cardinal Jose Saraiva Martins, the official in charge of sainthood, in which it said that Benedict XVI himself had authorized the start of the beatification process for Pope John Paul II.

The news was met with a standing ovation from the priests attending the meeting.

The coins main features;

The obverse of the coins depicts a true picture of Pope John Paul II holding a cane with a crucifix at the top just as you remember him in his latter years. It also has a cross that seems to protrude starting from the obverse of the coin coming all the way through the reverse. The coin was minting in Poland in the year 2003 to commemorate the 25th year of his papacy since his election in October of 1978.  Pope John Paul II was born in the Polish town of Wadowice in May 18, 1920.

During his lifetime, he touched the lives of millions and we will never forget him

SOME VERY IMPORTANT FACTORS THAT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED BEFORE INVESTING IN THE RARE COIN MARKET

-RISK FACTORS-

The purchase of coins (numismatics) is highly speculative and involves a substantial risk. As in other markets, coin prices can be extremely volatile. Prices will rise and fall depending upon market conditions. Therefore, before purchasing coins, you should first have adequate cash reserves and other assets to absorb a potentially significant loss. So. Cal. Coins & Collectables is not an investment firm nor do we make any guarantees on your purchase unless otherwise stated

-THE BIG PICTURE-

The rate of appreciation in numismatics always depends on the demand for the coin, availability, current market conditions and the coins rarity. Therefore, buyers, collectors and or investors should do their due diligence before buying or investing in this market. It may be necessary to hold coins for a 2 - 5 year period and maybe even 10 years in order to have any chance of realizing its maximum potential gain.
