The gold American Eagle bullion coins are made in four denominations:1 oz.,1/2 oz., 1/4 oz. and 1/10 oz. of gold. This coin is the $50 or 1 full oz. of Gold. This 2006 American Eagle coin is from the West Point Mint in the special Satin Finish. This finish allows the coins to look different from the regular coins because of the process of which they are completed in. The dies are sand-blasted with a fine mixture of sand and glass beads and this adds a luster to their shine!
The American Eagle Bullion program was launched in 1986 with the sale of gold and silver bullion coins. Platinum was added to the American Eagle Bullion family in 1997.
The obverse of the coin features an artists's modified version of the Augustus Saint Gauden's design that was used on United States $20 gold pieces from 1907 all the way until 1933. the reverse of the coin features a "family of eagles".
