If your not familiar with Applegate guitars, check out his web site at www.applegateguitars.com Base price on his guitars is now $5000. Add in another $2500 or higher for the Brazilian rosewood , and an up charge for the top and pickup and this guitar this one will cost you at least $8000 right now. Brian has spent a lot of time with Jim Olson and when I called Jim a few years ago to inquire about a guitar in this price range, he steered me right to Brian's guitars. Quite a recommendation to say the least. Lets get back to this beautiful guitar. Check out the Brazilian rosewood on this baby. Stunning!!! Some of the best I have seen. Its one of those guitars that when you play it for the first time, you can hear immediately the braz rosewood resonance in its tone. The top is beautiful piece of Adirondack spruce. Other spec's include : Ebony fingerboard, 14 frets to the body, Waverly tuners, . A few measurements: Upper Bout: 11 1/8in. Lower Bout: 15 in. Body Depth @Neck Heel: 3 1/2 in. Body Depth @Tail Block: 4 1/4in. Scale Length: 25.1/8 in. Nut Width: 1 3/4 in. Strings Spacing: 2 1/4 in. Brian told me that he made this guitar not as deep as a typical Sj to improve articulation and so designated the model as a SJ-ooo. It is not as "big" sounding as a SJ but has a sweetness only achieved by a smaller body chamber. The neck on this feel like a Olson, as playability is wonderful. Most folks say close your eyes and your hearing the Olson sound. But not the Olson price! The guitar is well balanced with very clear trebles and an understated, but articulate bass. Perfect intonation. Great craftsmanship. What else would you expect from a custom made guitar! I have not found a better guitar, and given the price point, it is one of the best deals in acoustic guitars out there. The guitar is in like new condition. Also has a K&K pickup system installed.
