Item Description:

This is a great calendar for gift-giving or for personal use as you look ahead to 2010. It's 8.5"x11" and made of high quality, smooth white heavyweight cardstock. Each calendar page is a full sheet of paper so when opened flat the decorated top and calendar bottom measure approx. 11x17. Each page easily accommodates several photos with lots of room for embellishment, art, stamping, etc. An 8x10 photograph would fit. Each month comes on its own page with the area on the back of the previous month's page above it, blank and undecorated - ready for your creativity! They are stampable, paintable and much more. I have pictures below of what I have done with my calendars in the past so you can see real examples of how they can be used. When comparing our calendars to others, please note the details we've given about our calendars to help you know what you're looking at as you make comparisons and see our comments below (in the "notes" section). 

• The calendars are professionally printed on sturdy white coverstock with a smooth surface that will not bleed and will accept ink very nicely for those of you who like to rubber stamp, paint or use markers.  Each calendar weighs more than 6 ounces and promises to hold up well during frequent use for the entire year.
  

• The binding is black plastic spiral coil and is a size up from the standard size used for this many  pages to allow for additional width that would be needed if adding photos, additional layers of cardstock, buttons, brads, ribbon or other embellishments. This also permits it to easily lay flat on a table or hang flat on the wall.

• The font used for these calendars is a good size and easy to read - very legible - making it practical for actually using it. 
  

• The front cover is blank both front and back (the calendar is thus 13 pages).

Another idea would be to decorate just the page for January, give it as a gift along with some adhesive (like those photo squares), and send each month's page as the year progresses as an "attachment" on a sheet of cardstock that's been trimmed slightly to fit on the page for that month. That way you can be more "up to date" with your photos for the grandparents and there's less work to do to get the gift ready. I even had my kids color their own pages for their grandparents (some of them made great photo backgrounds, though it wasn't necessary!)

One further idea would be to use this calendar as a scrapbook as you go - decorate each month either one month ahead of time for yourself or for your teenager off on exchange for a year to another country or to keep as a memory of a special time in your life as a family, or even as a baby's first year calendar and fill in as you go complete with pictures, token memorabilia, and notes on the days themselves.

• When comparing various calendars for sale, the differences to look for are primarily type of paper, binding, and design/layout.  Often what works best will be a matter of taste as all the calendars we've purchased either on ebay or elsewhere have been usable for some purpose, but sometimes your particular use will make all the difference.  For example, a comb binding is lighter and less expensive to make and ship, but they break more easily than a spiral binding and the calendar cannot be folded back on itself because the comb binding stops it between the cover and the last page.  With the spiral binding we use, you can rotate completely and fold back between any months - for us this is an essential difference.  Regarding paper, sometimes ink for rubber stamping will bleed on the lighterweight varieties, especially if they are textured rather than smooth.  Or, if you will be doing a handprint calendar as we have, which requires using paint, often the lighter weight ones will buckle a lot under the paint and won't lie flat.  We have chosen for these reasons to use higher quality binding and heavier weight paper.  We believe you get what you pay for: a product that holds up well, resists tearing and breakage, and is highly versatile.

If you are looking to do a large quantity, may we recommend purchasing a single calendar from several vendors so you can see and feel what you're considering and then you can make an informed decision about what will work best for you and potentially save a great deal of money by not investing heavily in a product that does not meet your needs or expectations. 

Please note again that the following photos are of my own calendars that we've created at various points in time (the samples shown include both small and large sizes) that I kept as a sample for future ideas. The calendars for sale here are completely blank and undecorated and ready for you to implement your own ideas, add your own photos, etc.

Notice in the pictures above, the largest pictures are 4x6's matted on slightly larger CS. These pictures give you a sense of how versatile the room available is and how much fits on each page (you can see I used both top and bottom pages, some embellishment but not a lot - plenty of room for more if so desired or time allows).
