Because we live in a world where one in five people may become a victim of cybercrime Symantec takes your security very seriously. We deliver the latest protection technologies backed by a global Symantec network that is protecting over 130 million client, server and gateway systems worldwide every day. We’ve been in the security business for over 20 years. It is our focus and our passion.
Virus scanning is not enough. Today’s threats come in forms that traditional virus scanning can’t begin to stop. To stop these diverse threats, Norton is introducing the Norton™ Protection System, a multilayered system of technologies that work in concert to protect against the latest threats by proactively blocking attacks and detecting and removing threats.
When you download or install a file Norton will check that file to let you know if it is safe to install. And it can identify files that are not safe even before you install them giving you the option to delete them before they ever get the chance to run on your PC.
One of the easiest ways to get attacked online today is through infected web sites that exploit vulnerabilities in the software on your PC. Norton vulnerability protection shields security holes in your browser, browser plug-ins, operating system and applications to prevent viruses, worms, and hackers from entering through these vulnerabilities and as a result can stop whole classes of attacks that traditional virus protection and firewalls can't.
We find and get rid of even hard to find cookies. And, Norton can clean up cookies regardless of whether you run Internet Explorer or Firefox browsers or both.
Sometimes you cannot clean a computer that is deeply infected from within Windows and sometimes a deeply infected computer simply won't boot. What do you do? Simply turn off your computer, insert your Norton Internet Security CD (or a Norton Recovery CD that you've downloaded and burned from our online system) and turn your computer on. We'll do the heavy lifting from outside your native Windows environment to scrub the deep infection off of your PC.
At Symantec we realize that whatever you use your computer for, you don't want it slowed down by top-heavy security software. We evaluate every line of code, and every possible interaction with the goal of providing comprehensive security that won't slow you down. That's why we are able to deliver strong security that's also fast and light on your PC.
Streamlined, rapid installation gets you up and running quickly. Foregoing Microsoft's Windows Installer technology, Norton Internet Security instead uses our proprietary streaming installation tools to get your computer secured in record time.
No one likes waiting for their computer to boot. The least we could do is try not to extend the pain. Norton Internet Security adds less to the boot time of the average PC than other Internet Security products.
Designed to have little impact on system performance, Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiVirus use less memory than other Internet Security products. You can even check up on how we are doing through the resource usage graphs in the product. In fact, you can check up on how much of your PC memory other applications are using as well using Norton System Insight.
Antivirus products typically scan the same files over and over both because they don't know what has changed and because they never know what might be infected. We use the results from our extensive global Norton Insight Network to identify files that are safe from those at risk. The result is that our products actually get faster over time. Subsequent scan times are lightning fast because we scan fewer files – without sacrificing security.
Norton Internet Security was developed with the idea that less is more – less memory, less time spent scanning, and fewer running processes. So it is expressly designed to stay out of your way when you are performing everyday tasks on your PC like copying or editing files or installing applications.
Online attacks have changed. Today you often face not just a single attacking threat but a series of attacks, each one trying to open the door for the next to get onto your system. Today's threat can even change its code each time it attacks a new system. In this environment you need a flexible security system that is smart enough to recognize and stop these new ever morphing types of threats.
With Norton Insight Network we've cranked up our protection levels. Not only are threat definitions available in real-time from our global security network, we've pioneered a new system that leverages a combination of online data from our Norton Community Watch program with sophisticated heuristics to identify and stop new threats that traditional antivirus approaches wouldn't recognize.
This year we created SONAR 2 (Symantec Online Network for Advanced Response), a new heuristics system that leverages our online intelligence network with proactive local monitoring of your PC to detect emerging threats. This system can stop today's rapid-fire attacks even before traditional signature-based definitions are available because it watches out for typical behaviors performed by malware.
Thousands of new viruses and infected web sites are found every day. Norton Pulse Updates plug you into Symantec's global security network, providing local protection updates against new threats every 5 to 15 minutes.
SONAR 2 (Symantec™ Online Network for Advanced Response) detects and eliminates bot activity to prevent others from taking control of your PC, accessing your private information, or using your computer to host an attack.
At the root of your computer is the operating system. Rootkits invade your computer's operating system, seizing administrative privileges and often disabling security products. The Norton products have tightly integrated technology for detection and removal of rootkits.
Worms lack legs. On the internet, they don't need them, instead hitching rides on email and instant messaging systems and other connections to spread through cyberspace at lightning speed. Norton security products include intrusion prevention technology to identify and stop worm infected traffic.
We don't believe in cryptic security pop-ups, instead we've re-engineered the way Norton AntiVirus communicates to give you clear, useful information and advice about downloads, files and threats in everyday language.
When you download a file Norton will immediately check that file to let you know if it can be trusted. This works for applications that you download even before you install and run them on your PC.
Threat Insight tells you how threat attacks have attempted to harm your computer, what Norton has done to eliminate those threats and where they came from so you can avoid future attacks.
File Insight tells you where files and applications came from, if they can be trusted, what activities they perform on your PC and what level of PC resources they require. That way you know if they are safe, if they might be slowing down your PC, what they are doing on your PC and where you got them.
Norton AntiVirus also helps protect the performance of your PC.
Flip over the standard Norton user screen to get view of recent events (such as downloads, installs and scans) on your computer, giving you the information you need to research and analyze problems with your PC. You can also see how much CPU and memory your PC has been using so you can instantly see if recent events impacted your resource usage.
On-demand, Norton will run a quick optimization on boot items and files that you commonly use to optimize their performance on your PC. However, we've been careful to keep automatic optimization out of your way by scheduling these activities only during times when your PC is idle and after you've installed something new.
Norton identifies what level of resource usage each application on your PC requires. You can see this easily for all currently running processes in the application ratings. By clicking on the memory or CPU usage graphs in Norton System Insight you can identify which application was responsible for a resource usage spike.
Norton AntiVirus is careful to stay out of your way when you are using your computer.
Norton stays out of your way by performing non-critical security tasks when your computer is idle. When you return to using your computer the Smart Scheduler automatically halts activity and reschedules it for when your computer will be idle again.
Silent mode suspends alerts, updates and other background activities to avoid interrupting or slowing games, movies and other full-screen activities. Silent Mode automatically activates when you enter full-screen mode on your PC or a click on the task bar turns on Silent Mode for a set time. It also automatically recognizes when you are burning disks or recording TV.
We make it easy for you to know what Norton has done to protect you, easy to stay protected and easy to reach us if you have any questions.
Every month you get a report on how many threat attacks we have protected you against and what we've done to keep you protected when you were online. You also get security tips and links to our Norton Cybercrime News.
Emails can contain worms or links to malicious code. Norton products look deep into the body of messages, attachments and message archives so you can exchange files without exchanging threats.
We offer multiple ways for you to get the help you need at no charge. Get help over the phone 24/7, connect via Free Chat directly from within your Norton product, or send us a message via Email and we'll get back to you. This is another way Norton differentiates itself, many other security products don't offer free support.
