20s CHURRO NAVAJO RUG Textile Native American NR

Offered here is a circa 1920 nice old Navaho weaving that measures 5 feet 6 inches long by 4 foot 1 inch wide or 66” x 49”.  It is attributed to the Western Reservation area and is in very good plus condition.  It was woven by an expert weaver on a primitive upright loom of all Native hand shorn, hand carded and smoothly handspun nice old long staple Churro sheep wool, both weft & warp. No Reserve.  The design is one large concentric, finely serrated central diamond on the nice variegated light tannish brown field.  The rug is framed by a nice bold, red, white and blue ribbon border.  Just a nice old Indian rug.  No Reserve.

We obtained this vintage Native American textile here in New Mexico just to offer to you here on eBay.  It has a smooth, even weft count averaging 20 per inch and a warp count of 6 per inch.  The selvage cords are complete, in excellent condition with sides replaced and 5 end breaks repaired.  Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft selvages are 2-spiral cords.  All four cor1

ners are tight, original and in excellent condition.  All four tassels have been restored to excellent condition.  No bleed, no holes, no odors, no moth nibbles, no fade and no stains.  It is fairly clean and comes from a non-smoking home.  There are 2 old restorations.  One is 1 ½” x 13” along one end stripe and one 3” x 4” in the middle in a light brown area.  Both sides are even in color and shown in photos below.  Colors are very good in this piece of old American Indian art and they are:  natural variegated hand blended shades of grayish brown to tannish brown, natural ivory white as well as hand dyed aniline rust brown, aniline grayish blue and aniline turkey red.  Complete with lazy lines as well as a spirit line or weaver’s pathway, this nice example of near antique Native Americana is ready to display in your own hacienda or just tuck away in your private rug & blanket collection.  Great Christmas idea too!     (1018)
