Small print stuff:  We are trying to institute a method to assign condition to materials that are the types that there is a desire to have a good surface, materials of this type can be PC Board material or clear stock like acrylic or polycarbonate and others as they present themselves.   

This is a number out of five system. Note: All of stock is recycled, which can mean that they are drops or manufacturing overages, or just old stock that is being taken out of inventory, but can also be material left over from a machining process.  Our condition rating will be shown as 1/5 to 5/5. 

New:  New stock is new stock and its condition is new.

5/5:  Means that it is nearly new, usable with no adjustments or work, there can be some minor flaws scuffs but nothing that should be a problem.  With PC Board material this means there can be some minor scuffs and flaws but nothing that would affect use.   With clear stock this would mean that there is nothing in the working surface of the material but there might be some edge chipping.

4/5: The material would have some tarnish, scuffs minor scratches but nothing major.

3/5: More scuffs, tarnish and minor scratches. Can be cleaned up with polish and steel wool.

2/5: Lots of scuff, tarnish and scratches can be such that they can be detected by feel, some minor corrosion. Cosmetically these pieces are going to be rough.  Not really worth it to try to polish.

1/5: This condition is poor, almost to the point of not being usable. 

0/5: Into the trash can.

Our PC Board material is FR4 fire retardant phenolic.  The copper is pure copper and very reactive to everything.  Just touching the surface will result in some tarnish. Moving a piece across the packing table is enough to abrade the surface.  We try to pack the outside of the stack of board with the worst so that they can take the abuse and save the rest.  If the condition is marked as 4/5 then every piece will fall within that parameter even if the outside pieces are worse.

Just a short note about measurements.  We try to measure accurately most pieces will be plus an eighth or more. Measurements are of usable material.  If a piece of round stock is center drilled the part that is drilled is NOT counted as usable material.  If a piece is not square then the measurements will be of a square of useable material.   For PC Boards the thickness is nominal.  Some pieces listed as 0.060" are actually 0.057" thick, this seems to depend on the thickness of the copper.

Shipping, we encourage bundling, the cost of packaging material makes it beneficial to you  and to us to bundle. Optimal package weight is thirty pounds or more, you can reduce your rate per pound by half with bundling.  We calculate via standard UPS ground tables with no handling charges or packaging material charges, bundling helps us maintain this policy.  We are not sure how long we can keep this up, packing materials have gone up more than 30% in the past two years.   We do not normally ship USPS, if we do there IS A HANDLING charge of $6 per package, this is to cover the cost of hand carrying a package to the post office which is a minimum of an hour round trip.  We only do this once or twice a week.  We understand for some in the non-continental US flat rate is such a great deal that this is requested, and we will do this if requested.  For more policy items please goto: http://www.machinist-materials.com/Sale-comp.htm   Thanks, for question please goto: sales@machinist-materials.com
