Auto-Top Off System - Open top reef systems cause a large amount of evaporation. Generally reef systems need an addition of R.O. water every day or 2 to keep salinity levels constant for coral and invertebrates. We include a Large Custom Reservoir Auto-Top Off System that holds at least a week of R.O. Water to eliminate the need for daily water top off. Our system includes a Custom Reservoir, water pump and hose connections and water level sensor module. We design our Auto-Top Off system to be flood proof. Our Sumps will hold the entire water capacity in case of module failure, unlike direct RO hook up with float that can flood a home due to failure.

Live Rock Filter Media

Intense Water Circulation

Live Rock Filter Media
Live Rock is the most important Biological Filter Media and is invaluable in the total success of a natural Saltwater Aquarium. 1 – 2 pounds per gallon of Live Rock will offer the best and most complete Biological filter available. Live Rock will outperform all other filters including, Canister, Wet-Dry, Fluidized bed, Under Gravel and all standard hang on outside filters. Live Rock never needs to be replaced and generally will improve biologically as it ages. Live Rock serves 2 important purposes 1. Filters the water 2. Decorates the aquarium and affords a natural environment for all fish and invertebrates. Do not try to use standard freshwater filtration even if it says it is for saltwater instead of Live Rock for filtering. Listed below are the main advantages of Live Rock.

Intense Water Circulation
Saltwater Aquariums need intense water circulation which is similar to the ocean reefs. Saltwater fish only aquariums require water pumps that turn the entire aquarium over a minimum of 10 to 20 times per hour. An example – a 60 gallon aquarium needs a pump or pumps that pump 600 to 1200 gallons per hour. Saltwater Reef Aquariums(including corals and anemones) require 20 to 40 times per hour. An example – a 60 gallon aquarium needs a pump or pumps that pump 1200 to 2400 gallons per hour. Do not try to use standard freshwater filtration even if it says it is for saltwater instead of Live Rock for filtering. Standard Freshwater filtration does not meet the minimum pumping requirements or have adequate circulation.
High Intensity Lighting
Live Rock Filtered Saltwater Aquariums require a minimum of 1 1/2 watts per gallon of High Intensity Saltwater Lighting. Many Corals, Invertebrates and Algae’s require High Intensity Light to grow. Live Rock also needs this light to function properly and to produce the abundance of living creatures hidden within. Do not try to convert freshwater lights by using saltwater bulbs because the wattage per gallon is too low for most saltwater needs.
