What It Is
Life Humor Magazine from 18 January 1923 -- Western Number

Would make great birthday or anniversary present
for someone you know, or for fans of great art!

You can learn more about these artists at American Art Archives!

We try to take extra care scanning the most interesting ads and including all stories and authors featured in a magazine. Since this takes time, we can only list a limited amount of items each week. We have a huge archive and chances are, we have ads and story illustrations by the illustrator you are looking for.

Help us decide what to list next! Feel free to e-mail us with your list of ads, illustrators, authors, or themes you are looking for. We will be happy to list them on ebay.

Highlights
Cover by John Held, Jr. -- East is West

Illustrators include Rea Irvin; Raymond Crosby, T. S. Sullivant, J. R. Shaver, Charles Dana Gibson, Ellison Hoover, A. B. Frost, Will James

Authors include Will Rogers, Walter E. Traprock

Also in this magazine, some great period ads, including for Michelin; Cunard and Anchor; Packard; Kodak; Fisher Bodies by McClelland Barclay; Woodsbury by Grant Reynard; and more

Condition Note
It's rather difficult to get the color and the contrast of the original in a scan AND preserve any flaws, which tend to get muted, or mostly show only on the very edges (which gets cropped) so this text will describe flaws, if any.

No missing pages. Library stamp and date stamp; address stamp on the back. Pages are loose and spine edge is rough as this magazine was probably removed from a bound volume. Overall in pretty good shape with the usual blemishes as would be expected from materials this old (page tanning, especially at edges, small tears, corner bumps, some cover soiling and spine wear, etc.), but not bad. Auctioned as is.

Specifications
Approximate size is 10.5 x 8 inches. Much of this issue would be perfect for framing.
Who would like it?
A vintage piece not only captures a time and place, but makes a great asset for the historian, teacher, decorator, collector.

As a gift, individual pages and ads would look great matted and framed, spicing up any room: home, store, dorm, office, school, etc.

Who am I
I'm currently archiving ads and artist for American Art Archives. These exceptional collectibles were "rescued." They're now ready to find permanent homes!

"But the noble man makes noble plans, and by noble deeds he stands." Isaiah 32:8

*Why collect illustration art? The illustration art found in magazines, books, etc., provides a  real-time look at the past. It shows how life was lived: what constituted beauty, heroism, relationships, loss, ethics, spirituality, fun -- you name it. You can learn more from owning and studying a publication from decades past than you ever could by reading a history book or listening to a classroom lecture. As a collector, I can attest that collecting illustration art has been a constant education, not just in the art itself, but also in the times when that art was published. So, for as little as the price of a pizza, you can own a piece of history!
