These beautiful eggs are often called "Pisanki" or "Pysanky". The artisans of the Carpathian Mountain region have been creating this folk art for hundreds of years. The wooden eggs are entirely hand painted and the natural eggs are decorated by batik method, making each one unique and different from the others, but all of similar complexity and beauty. History of Egg Ornamenting.....

Polish pisanka is a common name for an egg ornamented using various techniques, such as painting and waxing. Originating as a pagan tradition, pisanki were absorbed by Christianity to become the traditional Easter Egg. Pisanki now symbolize the waking up of nature and hope that Christians gain faith in the resurrection of Jesus.

The oldest known Polish pisanki come from the 10^th century, but the eggs were probably decorated by Slavic people earlier than that.

In the past, only women were decorating eggs. Men were not allowed to come inside the house during the process, as it was believed that he could put a spell on the eggs.
