I have decided to sell my collection of memorabilia which I have amassed over the past 35 years. I will attempt to list new items each day for the next several months. This collection has been purchased from individuals and estates who responded to ads in my local newspaper (asking to purchase autographs) The Atlantic City Press. I placed ads because Atlantic City was the home to the famous Steel Pier which was located on the boardwalk. Many celebrities appeared there over the years. Atlantic City was also home to many nightclubs where famous celebrities often appeared. And, even today, many celebrities are appearing and can be seen at the many casinos that have been built since the 1970's. I also purchased items over the years from dealers, auction houses, Ebay and the like. If the item has been personally acquired by me, I will note that in the listing. My collection consists of autographs from all fields (movies, historical, sports, etc.), sports cards, baseballs and antique mechanical banks, both old and newer originals and sundry other items.
These items are from a collection purchased by me from the estate of a CPA who lived in Atlantic City, NJ and was an avid collector of autographs. His collection covers a period of time from the early 1930's until his death in the early 1990's. That collection covered all areas of sports as well as the entertainment field. Many of his autographs were gotten at the world famous Steel Pier where celebrities from all over the world performed. And, with the advent of gambling and the steady stream of celebrities (sports and otherwise) coming to Atlantic City, he somehow always managed to get the autograph that he was after.
This is my last auction of baseball autographs from the CPA's collection. These are autographs of retired Philadelphia Phillies, 26 in all and all on 3x5 cards. I also have another auction that is presently going on of 73 retired baseball players' (none of whom are Phillies) autographs.
I have sold many items from this collector's albums. Based upon his collecting for 60 years, the albums in which they were kept and the many signed autographs to "Harold" (the CPA's first name), I have no doubts as to the authenticity of each and every item.
I have removed these autographs from the album in which they were kept by the collector. Some of them are inscribed "To Harold" which was the CPA's first name. I have no doubt as to the authenticity of each and every autograph. He was able to get some autographs twice and I will point that out. Some of the 3x5 cards show the player's name on the reverse and in some cases, the date that the collector got the autograph. I have listed the names of the baseball players but have only attached 1 scan to this listing to show the number of autographs involved. IF ANY BIDDER WANTS A SCAN OF ANY OF THESE AUTOGRAPHS SENT TO THEM, PLEASE SEND A REQUEST TO ME AT mrhaj@verizon.net AND I WILL SEND THE SCANS.
AUTOGRAPHS IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER ARE: Larry Christenson, Tug McGraw, Danny Ozark, Larry Bowa, Gary Maddox (2), Marty Bystrom, Manny Trillo (2), Richie Ashburn (2), John Vukovich, Don Money, Steve Carlton(2), Randy Lerch, Robin Roberts, Jay Johnstone, Mike Schmidt, Dickie Noles, Greg Luzinski (2), Don Carmen, Jack Fisher, Curt Simmons and Jim Lonborg. MANY OF THESE PLAYERS WERE MEMBERS OF THE 1980 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM.
Please excuse any names that I may have misspelled. The vast majority of these autographs are in excellent condition considering their age. These autographs will be a valuable addition to any baseball collection whether or not you are a Philadelphia Phillies fan.
