Fine original Boer War slouch hat badge for the 29th Battalion (Irish Horse), of the Imperial Yeomanry. This badge is a silvered brass triple spray of shamrock above the letters "IH", with the brass showing through on the reverse and on the high-points of the obverse. Held to the hat by two stout lugs (E/W), which also secure the moire rosette to the badge. The rosette shows some signs of wear, particularly a nip at about 11:00 (see photo), but is very supple for its age. As a reference, the badge is illustrated as Figure # 1405 in Kipling & King.This is a rare original, and not to be confused with the $8.00 restrikes presently in circulation. Another well-kept treasure from my collection of many years, guaranteed authenticity as always. Overall condition extra fine. A rare opportunity for the advanced collector to add an exquisite and authentic badge.
