Module II - EKG Training & Heart Sounds
You need not be an expert in electrocardiography in order to save lives. If professionals who come in contact with cardiac monitors and EKG's would routinely look for certain obvious EKG signs, many people would be saved from an untimely death every year. Regardless of your expertise and level of education, you should look for the following - easily identified - electrocardiographic signs of impending (life-threatening!) problems, even in apparently healthy persons.
This EKG Training cd will provide you with the training, resources and tools needed to become knowledgeable and observant, so that you can prevent a needless, premature demise. It is easier than you might think.
This Cardiac Assessment Module addresses how to recognize abnormal heart sounds, such as an S3 and S4, and murmurs; determine their probable causes; and intervene quickly and appropriately. You will also learn:
Acute Myocardial Infarction
- Cardiac Emergency Emergencies
- Cardiac Tamponade
- Recognize signs & symptoms of cardiac output
- How to monitor patients accurately
- The best place to listen for an S3 or S4, how these sounds develop, and how to distinguish them from split heart sounds
- which other signs and symptoms to look for if you detect an S3 sound in a patient with chronic heart failure
- How an S4 can result from increased resistance to ventricular filling—and hear what it sounds like
- How proper patient positioning and stethoscope placement can ensure accurate assessment of murmurs and other abnormal heart sounds
- How to characterize a murmur's intensity, pitch, quality, shape, and duration
