A new 250 GT Coupé was being developed by Pinin Farina at the end of 1957
while the Ellena-bodied car was still in production. Several prototypes were
built, the third of which was sold to Prince Bertil of Sweden. Another
prototype was entered in the Concours dElegance at Antibes, one of the
earliest appearances of a Ferrari in concours competition.
Production of the 250 GT Coupé began in 1958 at Pinin Farinas new factory
at Grugliasco and it was during production of this model that the companys
name (and its founders name) was changed to Pininfarina
The Ferrari Pinin Farina Coupé shown here, chassis number 1233 GT, was sold
new through the Venezuelan Ferrari importer Carlos Kauffmann in Caracas to
the first owner, an engineer named Staccioli.
Later the car returned to Italy and was acquired by Enzo Martinelli of
Modena. Subjected to a comprehensive restoration in the 1990s, the car was
stripped to bare metal, which revealed no corrosion anywhere on the Ferrari.
The car was then painstakingly prepped and painted to achieve a flawless
finish. Upon completion the Ferrari was shown by Martinelli during Ferraris
50th Anniversary meeting at Rome and Maranello.
A recent inspection revealed that the condition of the Pinin Farina Coupé
has faded very little since its restoration. There are still absolutely no
signs of corrosion anywhere on the car, the paint is still nearly perfect,
and even the boot area looks brand new. Mechanically the Ferrari is in
perfect health, with each cylinder showing full and even compression.
The Ferrari 250 GT Coupé was so well received that some 350 examples were
produced and road car production at Maranello was increased by 75% purely
because of the success of this car. It is no surprise as to why the 250 GT
Coupé had purposeful, notchback styling, the best-appointed interior of any
Ferrari built thus far, it could attain a top speed of 240 km/h and would
sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.

Alla fine del 1957, una nuova 250 GT Coupé era in fase di sviluppo in casa
Pinin Farina, mentre le vetture con telaio Ellena erano ancora in produzione.
Ne furono costruiti diversi prototipi, il terzo dei quali fu venduto al
Principe Bertil di Svezia. Un altro prototipo fu iscritto al Concorso
dEleganza di Antibes, una delle prime apparizioni di una Ferrari in un
concorso.
La produzione della 250 GT Coupé iniziò nel 1958 presso il nuovo
stabilimento di Pinin Farina a Grugliasco e fu proprio durante la produzione
di questo modello che il nome dellazienda (e quello del suo fondatore) si
trasformò in Pininfarina.
La Ferrari Pinin Farina Coupé qui presentata, numero di telaio 1233 GT, fu
venduta nuova tramite limportatore venezuelano della Ferrari Carlos
Kauffmann di Caracas al primo proprietario, un ingegnere di nome Staccioli.
Successivamente, la vettura tornò in Italia e fu acquistata da Enzo
Martinelli di Modena. Sottoposta ad un restauro totale negli anni 90, la
Ferrari fu spogliata della carrozzeria e si rivelò priva di tracce di corrosione.
La vettura fu poi accuratamente ridipinta per ottenere una finitura
impeccabile. Una volta completato il restauro, la Ferrari fu esposta da
Martinelli al raduno per il 50° Anniversario della Ferrari a Roma e
Maranello.
Una recente ispezione ha rivelato che le condizioni della Pinin Farina
Coupé sono cambiate in modo irrisorio dal momento del restauro. Non vi sono
segni di corrosione in nessun punto della vettura, la vernice è ancora
pressoché perfetta e persino il portabagagli sembra ancora nuovo di zecca.
Per quanto riguarda la meccanica, la Ferrari è in perfetta salute ed tutti i
cilindri mostrano una compressione uniforme.
La Ferrari 250 GT Coupé ha ottenuto un così elevato consenso da essere
prodotta in 350 esemplari; la produzione di vetture da strada a Maranello
aumentò del 75% solo grazie al successo di questa vettura. E non è difficile
immaginarsi il perché: la 250 GT Coupé aveva, gli interni migliori di cui una
Ferrari fosse mai stata dotata, poteva raggiungere i 250 km orari e scattare
da 0 a 60 miglia orarie in 6,7 secondi.
