The first true four-seat series production Ferrari was the 250 GTE 2+2.
This gorgeous, Pininfarina designed car handled beautifully and had the
excellent balance of its two-seat predecessors. The first of these cars was
used by the Clerk of the Course at the 1960 Le Mans 24 Hour race. This
introduced the car to the world via the motoring press present at the great
race. Ferrari took six of the first seven places.
The four-seat car introduced Ferrari to a new market of owners who regarded
the two-seaters as impractical. The car was a great success, with nearly a
car a day produced for about three years. Towards the end of 1963 production
ceased and an improved model replaced it. Fitted with the new 4-litre version
of the Colombo designed V-12, the engine was conservatively estimated to
produce 300bhp. It incorporated some significant changes from its predecessor
including revised combustion chambers and wider-spaced bores, and it was
dubbed the 330, following Ferraris practice of naming an engine for the
displacement of a single cylinder.
Outwardly the 330 America was identical to the later 250 GTE 2+2s and
shared the same chassis. Just fifty 330 Americas were produced; some carried
the name America on the boot, while others did not. The 330 GT 2+2 went into
production in late 1963, making the America a rare automobile.
Ferrari 330 America, chassis number 5121GT, presented here represents an
uncommon opportunity to acquire one of the limited run of Ferrari Americas.
This car was imported new into the United States by Luigi Chinetti and was
sold to Christopher Owen based in New York. Believed to be the first owner,
this gentleman kept the car from January 1965 until April 1989. Subsequently,
5121GT was part of the Automuseum Deventer in the Netherlands until the end
of 2000 and has been owned by the vendor since 2006.The same year the car took part in the
Ferrari 60th Anniversary Concours dElegance.
The penultimate 330 America built, 5121GT is in lovely condition. Finished
in silver with red interior this car is well documented and, with just three
known owners from new, offers an outstanding opportunity so acquire an
excellent grand touring Ferrari.

La prima vera vettura di serie a quattro posti prodotta da Ferrari fu la
250 GTE 2+2. Questa lussuosa automobile disegnata da Pininfarina, oltre ad
essere molto maneggevole presentava leccellente equilibrio delle sue
predecessori a due posti. La prima di queste auto fu utilizzatadal commissario di gara del 24 Ore di Le
Mans 1960. Questo fu il lancio mondiale dellauto, attraverso la stampa
automobilistica presente alla competizione. Ferrari si aggiudicò sei delle
prime sette posizioni.
Lauto a quattro posti intradusse Ferrari ad un nuovo mercato di compratori
che consideravano le auto a due posti poco versatili. Lauto fu un grande
successo e venne prodotta in circa un esemplare al giorno per circa tre anni.
Alla fine del 1963 cessò la produzione, e un nuovo modello la sostituì.
Equipaggiata con il nuovo motore progettato dalling. Colombo a 12 cilindri
nella versione a 4 litri, che erogava 300 CV e, presentava alcuni significativi
cambiamenti rispetto al precedente modello, fra cui la modifica delle camere
di scoppio; il motore fu soprannominato 330 seguendo labitudine della
Ferrari di denominare un motore per la modifica della cilindrata.
Esternamente la 330 America era identica alle 250 GTE 2+2. Furono solo 50
esemplari di 330 America prodotti; alcuni riportavano il nome America sul
cofano posteriore, mentre altri non lo riportavano. Il modello successivo,
330 GT 2+2 iniziò ad essere prodotto alla fine del 1963, rendendo lAmerica
unautomobile molto rara.
