Offered here is a circa 1930s classy old Navaho weaving that measures 4 feet 8 inches long by 3 foot 2 inches wide. It is attributed to the Chinle weaving area and is in excellent condition. It was woven by an expert weaver on a primitive upright loom of all Native hand shorn, hand carded and very nicely handspun excellent quality Merino sheep wool, both warp & weft. The design is a very appealing overall repeating serrated wave or lightning layout. A nice borderless design with compound end stripes. Just an excellent condition, tightly woven old Navajo rug with gorgeous, uncommon coloring. No Reserve.
We obtained this vintage Native American textile in Santa Fe, NM just to offer to you here on eBay. It has a very nice weft count averaging 26 per inch and a warp count of 6 per inch. The selvage cords have all been professionally restored to 100% complete and excellent. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft selvages are 2-spiral cords. All four corners are tight, original and in excellent condition. All four tassels have been restored to excellent. No bleed, no holes, no odors, no moth nibbles, no fade, no stains and no snags. It has not been cleaned, is fairly clean now & comes from a non-smoking home. There are 4 very small (1/2” or smaller) light soiled spots that should clean out if desired. Both sides are even in color and shown in photos below. Colors are very good in this piece of old American Indian art and they are: hand blended natural variegated light brown, natural ivory white along with aniline over-dyed black, aniline light to medium purple and aniline lemon yellow. Complete with lazy lines, this nice example of near antique Native Americana is ready to display in your own hacienda or just tuck away in your private rug & blanket collection. A great Christmas idea too! (1045)
